IM PROVED BED-BOTTOM.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 71.700, dated December 3, 1867.

To all whom fit 'may concern:

Beit known that I, D. G. OHAPIN, of Gale. na, in the county of Jo Daviess and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Spring Bed-Bottom; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. V

This invention relates to a spring bed-bottom; and consists inthe means adopted for fastening the coil to the. slats.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top, and Fig. 2 a side, view of a section of my improved bed-bottom.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.

A A are the slats; B, the coiled spring; C, a large-headed nail by which the small end of the spiral coil is firmly held t-o the slats.

I am aware that spring bed-bottoms have vbeen made of slats with spiral coils or springs upon them, arranged in manner similar to th at shown by me 5 but they have hitherto failed in means to hold the spring firmly to the slat, so that it should not turn round, and this is effected by the use of the strong broad-headed nail U.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent;

Fastening the coiled springs of beds to the slats by means of a broad-headed nail passed through the apex of said spring, as herein shown and described.
