[To ALL wHoM 1T MAY ooNcERN:
` Be it known that we, G nAELEs A. HARPER and IsAAo A. CRANE, ofahway, in the county ot Union, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Detachable Ovens and Heating- Drains for usein connection with'any kind of stoveor heater; and we do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing had to the annexed drawings, making part of this speciiication, in whichi 1 i Figure 1 is a perspective view. Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section. Figure 3 is a vertical transverse-section. In all .the figures the sameletters are employed in the designation of the same parts. A This drum and oven is intended to be attached tto the pipe of any form of stove o r heater, and our improv'e-i ment consists in the mode of obtaining the di'usion of the heat over the surface of the platesformingtbe inner" oven; alsovin'the mode of obtaining atmospheric circulation throughtheoven or drum.` i
Thefollowing description will enable those who are skilled in the. art to make and apply our `imprpved oven and drum. i
A is the external ease oi the drum, attached to the pipes B and C. Within this case is a smalleroven, D, i formed by a bottom, top, two sides, and an end plate, around, and in contact with all of which,'.tl1e heat passing into thepipe is brought as it passes through the drum. A plate, D', is placed over` the inlet-pipe Bto prevent ltoo great heat at thc point when the up 'rising` current would otherwise strike'against the bottom plate of the r 'oven.' In order to secure a more perfect diiusion of the circulation, flanges E E areextendd'froln Vthe top` of` `the sides totheexternal casa-which, preventing the draught from passing directly upon theitop plate, forces4 4 it to pass across the end plate and thence overfthe top plate. A dat pipe, Gr, is constructed under the top plate of the exterior casing, extending over the top plate of the oven', from its rear end nearly to the front. The space between Athe rear of this pipe, wherejit is left openr'above the back iiue, Vmay be closed by a damper, `H, l f which, actuated by a rod, H', may he used either to `close that opening, andthus force the circulation to pass over the top of the oven to enter the pipe Gr, or to open it, and thus leave a free course for the draughtdi-rectly* into the pipe C. The door I closes the front of the oven. v.It is formed-with two rowsofholos, covered by slides K and K', with corresponding holes for the purpose of making an atmospheric circulation' through the oven, i passing in at the lower openings K, and forced to traverse twice along thelength'of the oven by a centralplate,
L, extending across the oven from the door nearly to the back 'of the oven, leaving a space, L,-and then passing" `A out at the upper openings K. These openings areJ especially designed for usewhen the' oven is not in use@ except as a drum. v A A A i By this means we greatly increase the heating-surface of the drum, and also provide a means for regulating the heat in the oven when usedfor bakingi by the introduction of an atmospheric current `intothe oven by slightly opening the spaces and K. Y
vWhat n'e'claim as our invention, anddesire to secure by Iietters Patent, is- A 1. In' combination with the external ease A and internal oven D,.the ilanges E, llocated as described, pipe G and damper H, for the purpose of eiiecting distributori of the heat, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the external casingA and oven D, we claim the door I, with the lower and upper series of openings at K and K', and the plate .L so placed as to leave the sppce L' at'the back 0f the oven, sub-y stantially as and for the purpose set forth. A 3. In combination with the external case A, oven D, and pipe B, we claim the plate D', arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth. Y i
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses: R. M. EnM'oNns, JOSEPH CoNKLIN.
