UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUDOLF VAWROSOH, OF TRIEST, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
SWIVEL WATCH-PENDANT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 712,872, dated November 4, 1902.
Application filed January 7,1902. Serial No. 88.782. (No modela To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLE` WAwROsOH, officer of the royal mines in Triest, a citizen of the Empire of AustriwHungary, residing at Triest, in the Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swivel findingOrOwns for Vatches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description Of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a crown for watches, and relates particularly to a crown for the stem of a watch that is provided with a chain-hook formed therewith in Order tO dispense with the swivelhook for the watchchain.
The invention consists of a crown for the stern Of a watch, comprising a body having a chain-hook formed integral therewith and provided with a socket, a spring confined in said socket, and a safety-tongue acted upon by said spring for closing said hook, as will be more fully described hereinafter, and finally set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures l, 2, and 3 are respectively a front elevation, a side elevation, and a central vertical section of my improved crown and chain-hook. Fig. 4 is a central vertical section of a modified form of the same. Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively a side elevation and a central vertical section of a further form of the device. Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views of a crown formed with a chain-loop; and Fig. 9 is a front view of a Watch, showing my improved crown attached thereto.
Similar letters Of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, a represents the body or knob of the crown for the stem of a watch, which has formed integral therewith a chain-hook of usual form that is closed by means of the safety-tongue b.
As shown in Fig. LI, a represents the knob of the crown, which has swiveled therein the body h, having formed integral therewith the chain-hook and having the safety-tongue b. The body is formed with a socket in which is con fined the spiral spring c, that is adapted to act upon the safety-tongue b, as shown in Figs. 3, i, and 6. The lower end of the body 7L is provided with an annular groove that is engaged by the screw g, secured in the knob c, so as to provide a swivel means for the chain-hook, as shown in Fig. 4t.
As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the knob a is provided with a loop d, formed integral therewith, so as to take the place of the ring which is usually employed for the connection of the chain with the watch. By this construction of a watch-crown the necessity Of providing a swiveled hook for the watch-chain is dispensed with, so as to provide a simpler, less expensive, and more effectual connection between the watch-chain and watch.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the stem of a watch, of a crown having a central socket, a hook formed integral with said crown ,a safetytongue for closing said hook, and a spring confined in said socket for actuating said tongue, substantially as set forth.
2. A crown/for the stem of a watch, consisting of a body having a chain-hook formed integral therewith and provided with a socket, a knob having swiveled connection with said body, a spring confined in the socket of said body, and a safety-tongue actuated by said spring for closing the hook, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.

RUDOLPH JELLEK, GIOVANNI DOBNER.
