Description

(ModeL) D. A. A. BUCK.
Watch Cases.
No. 234,234. Patented Nov. 9,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
D. AZRO A. BUCK, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
WATCH-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,234, dated November 9, 1880.
Application filed April 5, 1880.
To all whom at may concern:
Be it known that I, D. AZRO A. BUCK, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven, and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch- Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompa nying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my bezel, ring, and glass ascombined for use. Fig. 2 is a like view of said parts separated from each other, and Fig. 3 is a section upon line 00 m of Fig. 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The design of my invention is to add to the ornamental features ofa watch by enabling two kinds or colors of metal to be employed in and around the bezel, andalso to permit of the contraction of the size of the opening through which the dial is seen; and to this end it consists in combining with the bezel of a watchcase a ring fitted into the groove beneath the edge ofthe glass, substantially as is hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a watch-case bezel of usual form cxteriorly, and provided within its inner edge with a groove, to, for the reception ofa glass, B. The groove to has the usual undercut form, but is somewhat deeper than is necessary for the reception of the glass B, and receives a thin metal (MolleL) ring, C, that is contained within the bottom of said groove, and is held in place by said glass, which is fitted over and bears upon the same.
The ring C (shown in the drawings) has a down ward and inw ard inclination ,which causes its inner edge to nearly touch the dial of a watch, and has such width as is necessary in order to secure the desired size of opening, through which said dial may be observed but any desired form may be given to said ring, and it may be used to fill the space vertically between the bezel A and dial without diminishing the size of said opening.
The ring 0 may be constructed from the same metal as the bezel A, or it may be made from metal having another color, in which event, by means of the contrast between the colors of said parts and the dial, fine effects may be produced.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new 1s- In combination with the bezel of a watchcase, aring fitted into the groove beneath the edge of the glass, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of March, 1880.
D. AZRO A. BUCK.
