SHADE-BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,287, dated August 5, 1902.

Beitknown that I, FREDERICK YAHN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-B rackets and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to window-fixtures, and it has reference particularly to that class of shade-roller brackets which are made adjustable,so as to accom modate various lengths of shade-rollers.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and readily-operated device of this nature.

Myinvention will be found fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, the device being shown as also comprising a support for a curtain-pole. Fig. 2 is'a plan view of a part of the device with a certain knob for one of the members which is illustrated in Fig. 1 being omitted. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the device as seen in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 shows, partlyin plan and partly in section, that form of my invention seen in Fig. 1.

In said drawings, a is a sheet-metal plate adapted to support the bracket for the shaderoller, being for this purpose provided with holes b, through which screws or nails whereby it is secured to the window-frame pass. The longitudinal edges 0 of this plate are bent back upon themselves, so as to form opposed grooves d. Preferably along the central portion and longitudinally of the plate is stamped therein a series of recesses c, the edges f of which form abrupt teeth. The teeth f may be formed, if desired, by cutting the metal out to form a series of openings g, as in Fig. 4.

h is the bracket, the same comprising, as usual, the bearing part i for the trunnion of the shade-roller. Said bearing part forms an integral projection of a guiding member j, formed with integral elongated slides 70, arranged to fit between the edge portions 0 and slide in their grooves cl. Between the slides 7:. and parallel therewith is a tongue Z, also constituting an integral portion of the part This tongue has its free end turned inwardly, as at m, so as to bear against the plate and engage the teeth f. As an auxiliary guiding means for the bracket h the longitudinal portion of the metal in which the recesses c or openings 9 are formed is depressed, so as to produce a groove 11, in which the tongue may project and be guided.

It is preferable that the tongue I be formed with a knob whereby its point we may be dis engaged from the teeth f, and this knob can be most inexpensively produced by simply forming a rebend or hump o in the tongue. (See Figs. 1 and 4.)

p is a suitable support for the curtain-pole, the same being preferably riveted to the end of the bracket h, which has its extremity q turned off at right angles to the part i for this purpose.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of a shade roller bracket consisting of a plate having one end portion thereof formed as spaced parallel guides and with a tongue between said guides, and having its other end portion turned off at right angles to said guides and constituting the roller-carrying portion of said bracket, said tongue having a rebend or hump serving as a knob, and a guiding-support for said bracket, said support having teeth adapted to be engaged by the tongue and grooves adapted to receive said guides, substantially as de scribed.

The combination of a shade roller bracket consisting of a plate having one end portion thereof formed as spaced. parallel guides andwith a tongue between said guides, and having its other end portion turned off at right angles to said guides and constituting the roller-carrying portion of said bracket, said tongue having a rebend or hump serving as a knob, and a guiding-support for said bracket, said support having teeth adapted to said first-named grooves and adapted to receive said tongue, and said support also havi5 ing teeth in the intermediate groove adapted to be engaged by said tongue, substantially as described.
