Be it known that I, HERBERT G. STREAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings accompanying and forming part of the saine.

The object of my invention is to provide a necktie of the Ascot variety which the wearer himself can readily arrange as a partially-made-up tie. Thus partially made up it can be easily adjusted in position without the difficulty sometimes experienced in tying a scarf of this kind.

My invention consists, essentially, of a part adapted to form Vthe tie and a neckband attached thereto and embracing other features hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings,Figure l represents my scarf before being arranged for tying around the neck. Fig. 2 shows the scarf made up and in the process of being arranged for use, and Fig. 3 shows the same as it appears at a further step in the process of arrangement.

The body of the tie is made by the tie-band or tie-forming part 1 of suitable material of the proper width and preferably of the form shown. Attached thereto on the reverse side or lining, if the body l is of that kind, is the neckband 2, the linings of the two being placed together. The most convenient way is to secure these parts detachably at right angles, as by stitching or by an ordinary pin 3. It may also be desirable to form one or more plaits in the center or to turn down the upper edge of part l, as shown at 4E, the purpose of this being to produce a puffed effect in the tie when madeup. The two ends 5 6 are now folded over the end 7 of the band 2, crossingeach other, as `shown in Fig. 2, and fastened together, as by a pin. This finishes the making up, and it remains only to arrange the scarf on the wearers neck. A loop for this purpose is made in the band over the finger, as shown `in Fig. 2. The free end of the band having then been passed around the collar is thrust through the loop, as in Fig.

3, forming a simple knot. If now this knot be tightened by holding the tie closely against the collar and pulling the end 8, it will be drawn` down under the upper part of the scarf. This aids in producing a puffed appearance, avoiding the fiat effect which so many ready-made ties display. When the knot is properly tightened, it is secured in any convenient Way, as by pinning the end S to the part l or by fastening it to the shirtfront with a clasp. Removed I from the wearer the tie is again in the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and is left so without restoring it to the first form, Fig. l.

My invention will be found especially useful is scarfs made of wash fabric. It is of course impracticable to launder the ordinary ready-made article; but my tie,whilepossess ing the advantages of the ready-made variety in ease and convenience of adjustment to the wearer, may be readily taken apart by the removal of a few pins and laundered Without difficulty.

It will be understood, of course, that my invention is capable of many variations and is not limited to the form or configuration shown; but

1. A necktie comprising a tie-forming part having a turneddown upper edge', and a neckband detachably secured to the tie-forming part at a right angle thereto at approximately the center of such turned-down portion, as setV forth.

2. A necktie comprising a tie-forming part having its ends folded toward its center and crossed, and a neckband secured in the fold of said tie-forming part and at a right angle to the top of the tie, as set forth.

3. A necktie comprising a tieforming part having its ends folded toward its center as described, and a neckband detachably secured in the fold of said tie-forming part and at a right angle to the top of the tie, as set forth.
