lMl 'LEMENT FOR STRIPPI NG' lNStJLATlON FRO WIRE.
SPECIFICATION 1'0 all whom it may ('UILUCI'H:
lleit known that I, (itannmrn U. 51 nnnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Perth Amboy, Middlesex county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Implements for Stripping Insulation from 'Wire, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my in vention is to provide an implement or tool which. will be adapted to cut or sever thein sulation upon virc in'a circulardirection and to strip the severed insula'tion from, the wire by pulling the wire through the implement.
'lheinventiou comprises an implement provided with a pair of jaws, between which is ted to receive wire, the utting edge, the implement bear upon the end of the insulation, whereby when the wire is pushed into said slot the insulation will be partly. out and by then rotating the implcn-ient around e the insulation will be severed in a circulafdirection to'looscn one portion of the insulation from themain part and whereby the wirecan be'pulled through the slot. without injury to the 'wir'e, and thereby the loosjaws having a c cned'pert ion of the insulation can lie-stripped from the wire.
;Refcrence is to be'had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein Figure l is a face-vimvof an implement embodying my invention, and, Fig. 2'is an end provided with c wire. i
In the drawings, in which similar letters of view thereof shown applied-to an insulated reference indicatecorrcspoiuli ng part-s in the se'v'cral views, A-imljieatcs generally an imneut or tool which is provided withopposed'jaws of, between which is'a slot orspace i1, adapted toreceive awire 13. The inner. faces or edges of the ja'w'sfat the slotv 11 are. utt'ing, edgesn, which may evclingthe', edges of the slot lines, as indicated in Fig. 2-. t adjacent to b can be left'ilat, forming an abutting to bear against the insulation 15 on the wire At the inner end-of the. slot or. space (I a shoulder or abutment b is formed,
'be formed by b on convergingslot it'can stop against sai of the insulation,
through the slot, am.
stripped fronrth 'conven it saves the customar ,the. aetion'of the 1 theiaws to be slippe to be rotated, an advantages of wh forming part of Letters Patent No. 698,567, dated April 29, 1902-. Application tiled June 22, 1901. Serial No. 65,668. .110 model.) i
there being no cutting edge at such end of the slot. Thereby as the wire is pushed into the d abutment, and asthe implement is rotated around the wire and the wire is pulled through the slot said abutment will not injure the wire, even though the-wire bears against the same.
I have shown the implement A as formed from a Hat piece of materialadapted to be conveniently handled; but it will be u'ndcn stood that the particular form of the ment may be varied. p
The implement may be provided with one or more of the slots having cutting edges as described, and when more than one of such slots are provided the widthsof the same may vary, so as to adapt the implement to ditfer enl gages of wire, or the jaws may be made movable to prov-hie for receiving between tin-in wires oi. different gage,
ln'using the implement the wire is forced into the slot (1, the wire being cl such gage'as to pass into the slot without in} ury, and thereupon the insulation will be. partly severed by the cutting edges :t',tlii1tliel1tl1e implement rotated about the wire, which cuts the insulation in a circular direction, sever'ingthe portion to be stripped from the main portion The wire is then pulled l as the insulation bears faces of the'tool it will be stripped ire in amanner indieated'in'l ig. l'. the insulation that isto be e wire sliding from the same he wire stripped from the against the from the w J, the portiono intact, leaving t severed, point: e outwardly.
be stripped for a distance longer than will be ient to accomplish atone stripping, the
insulation can be cut and stripped in several suitable lengths one after the other.
My invention w ill be found useful in that y method of stripping wire by gradually cutting with a knife,"and the stripping of the'wirecan be expedited over such meth0d,-becau s e f (1 over the .wire, the tool d the wire'to be pull-ed, the ich will be obvious Theform of the slot, the shape of the edges,
