LAUNDRY BRACKET 0R CLAMP.
A (Application med Nov. 2a, w01.)
(No Mo'del.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JAMES TEMPLE VATKINS, OF JEFFERSON CITY, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM W. MOODY, OF JEFFERSON CITY, TENNESSEE.
LAUNDRY BRACKET OR CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 694,302, dated February 25, 1902.
Application filed November 23, 1901. Serial No. 83,444. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JAMES TEMPLE WAT- KINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jeerson City, in the county of Jelierson and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Laundry Brackets or Clamps, of which the following is a specifiation.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in laundry bracket or clamp; and the object thereof is to provide a bracket or clamp for suitably supporting or suspending an ironing-board in such a manner so that skirts, shirts, and the like can be readily mounted thereon and ironed.
The invention further aims to construct a laundry bracket or clamp which shall be eX- tremely simple in its construction, strong, durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, readily set up; and to this end it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specilically described, and illustrated inthe accompanying drawings.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure lis an elevation showing the bracket or clamp secured to a table or other support, the latter broken away; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the im proved'clamp.
Referring to the drawings by reference-n umerals, l denotes a table orother support, to which is adapted to be secured my improved bracket or clamp for suspending and supporting an ironing-board. The bracket or clamp is constructed of suitable material, preferably metal, and consists of the vertical member 2, having formed integral with the upper and lower ends thereof the upper and lower laterally-extending arms 3 4 respectively'. Each of the arms 3 4 is provided with a screw threaded opening 5, in which is mounted a binding or set screw 6 '7,respectively, for securing the clamp or bracket to a table or other support.
Extending4 from one face of the vertical member 2, as well as formed integral therewith, is a pair of laterally-extending dat supporting-plates 8 9, of a greater width and length than the arms 3 4 of the vertical member 2. The flat plates 8 9 extend between the upper and lower arms 3 4 and parallel therewith. Said platesS 9 are arranged a suitable distance apart, the former below the arm 3 and the latter above the arm 4, and between the said plates 8 9 is secured a vertically-extending supporting-standard 10 for bracing the said plates. The standard lO is formed integral with the lower face of the plate 8 and the upper face of the plate 9 near the outer edge of the said plates. Each of the plates 8 9 are adapted to support one end of the ironing-board 1l and each of the binding or set screws 6 7 is adapted to secure the clamp in position as well as securing the ironingboard l-l in position. l
The clamp or bracket is secured to the table l for supporting and suspending the ironing-board l1 in the following manner: The bracket or clamp is mounted upon a table with the lower face of the plate 9 engaging or resting upon the upper face of the top of the table. Such manner of arranging the' bracket or clamp will cause the lower arm 3 to extend below the top of the table and lie parallel with the lower face of the said top. When in such position, the set-screw 7 in said lower arm 4 is adj usted to engage the tabletop or other support, thereby binding or securing the bracket or clamp to the table. One end of the ironing-board 1l is then mounted upon the plate 8, and the set-screw in the arm 3 is then 'adjusted to suitably engage with the board ll, thereby binding or securing the said end of the board to the bracket or clamp and suspending the board a suitable distance above the top of the table or other support, so that skirts, shirts, and the like can be readily ironed and moved upon the board for ironing them. It will be evident that a removable support of any preferable form can be employed for the other end of the board 1l, if desired, although this is not necessary if the clamp or bracket is of sufficient size, and it will also be evident'that the bracket or clamp can be set up in a reverse mannerthat is to say, the plate 8 and screw 6 in arm 3 engaging the table and the plate 9 and screw 7 in arm 4 engaging the board 11.
It is thought the many advantages of my improved construction of laundry bracket or clamp can be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will also be noted that minor changes maybe made in the details of construction without departing from thegeneral spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bracket or clamp for securing an ironing-board to a table or other support, consisting of a vertical member, a pair of laterallyextending arms integral therewith, a pair of flat plates integral with said member and arranged between said arms and of greater length and of greater Width than the said arms, a standard integral with the said plates for bracing them, a set screw extending through one of the said arms and in connection with one of the said dat plates adapted to secure the said bracket or clamp to the support, and a set-screw extending through the other of said arms and adapted when operated to secure the ironing-board to the other of the said plates.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
