ERNEST OLDENBUSOH, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO KRON HEIMER AND OLDENBUSOH COMPANY, A CORPORATION.
DESK FURNITURE.v a
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 693,426, dated February 18, 1902.
- Application filed April 27, 1901. Serial No. 57,6 92. (No model.) A
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST OLDENBUSCH, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New J er'sey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Desk Furniture, of which the following is a specification. Y I
My invention relates to improvements in desk furniture; and the object of my invention is to provide a device of neat appearance and of durable and economical construction for use upon a writing-desk and in other places. I attain this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- 7 Figure 1 is a view of the device complete.
Fig. 2 is a view of the pen-rack member de-' tached from the base, with the tongue 01 bent away to show the construction. Fig. 3 is a view of the stamp compartment or box. Fig. 4 is a view of the base, and Fig. 5 is a View of the sheet-metal blank from which the penrack member is formed.
Similar letters refer to similar parts th roughout the several views.
1 I form my improved device as follows: I cut out a piece of sheet metal, as shown at Fig. 5, having counterpart projecting sides b and b provided with corresponding indentations b and 6 b and b, b and h, and a tongue or flat spring d. The sides b and b may also be provided with lugs e, e c and e for fastening the member to the base at. These indented sides 19" and b of this piece of sheet metal are bent up at approximately right angles to the central section b. The tongue or flat spring dis also bent up in front of the central section b, a section 01 at the base of. the tongue 01 being bent into a plane at a right angle to the central section b, thetongue d bent up beyond the edges of the sides 12 and b and the upper end of d of the tongue (1 being bent outwardly and awayfrom the central section b.
The base a may be made of any desired the base of the tray a, through which are .passed the lugs 6', e c and e, which being folded over hold the parts together. To the back of the central section b of the pen-rack member may be attached a compartment 0,
of sheet metal, for holding postage or other stamps. This stamp-compartment omay be attached to the pen-rack by means of solder applied to its edges 0, c and c or in any well-known manner. The cover 9 ofthe ink-well 9 may be attached to the device by means of a ring h and chain h, if desired.
Asthe upper end d of the spring is bent outwardly, a pen or pencilmay be readily slipped down inside of the spring at and will be held by the spring at the indentations or sockets'b' and b or biand b or b and 19 Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1 1. In a device of the character described a central section, two counterpart sidesections having indentedv sides and atongue extend ing up outside thereof substantially as shown and described. 1 I
2. In a device of the character described two sheet-metal members having counterpart indented edges and a spring extending up outsideof such edges substantiallyas shown and described.
