H. D. FORBES. ATTACHMENT FOR SHELVES.
No. 435,173. Patented Aug. 26, 1890.
WITNEEEEE- IN ENTEIR- UNITED STATES PA ENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. FORBES, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ATTACHMENT FOR S'HELVES,
SFECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,173, dated August 26, 1890.
Application filed January 8, 1890i To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY D. FORBES, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Attachments for Shelves, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification. a
The object of my invention is to construct a-shelf attachment that may be easily connected to or removed from an ordinary fixed shelf, and that may serve to hold small articles, such as inkstands, hand-stam ps, pens, & c., it being particularly adapted for use in connection with'a writing-desk and for holding such articles as writers use; but it is obvious that it'may be used in other connections.
My device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whioh- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my device attached to a shelf. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of one of the supporting-clamps of my device.
A represents a fixed shelf of a desk, and B my attached shelf.
In the constructionillustrated the attached shelf is provided with two clamping-brackets like the one shown in Fig. 2, of which 0 represents a thin strip of metal, bent as shown, the part 0 being intended to rest upon the upper part of the fixed shelf, the part D to form a support of the inkstand-holder, and the part E to support the tray 13. That part Serial No. 336,230. (No model.)
the clamp proper. B B is made of some thin material, like plate brass or tin, and is bent into a convenient form for the purpose for which it is intended.
When used for supporting inkstands, holes are made adapted to receive an ink-wel1,like K, for instance.
When desirable, a blotter-pad H may be used in connection with my device.
When it is desirable to have a pen-tray attached, one may be formed, as indicated by B.
For supporting hand-stamps I have a series of openings N N made in the parts B II, as shown.
From the above description of the device and its uses it is obvious that the articles may be made wholly or in part of wire and still be in all essential respects like the device shown.
I claim- 1. The combination, in a shelf attachment, of clamping-brackets and an inkst-and-support, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, in a shelf attachment, of olampingbrackets and a pen-tray, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, in a shelf attachment, of clamping-brackets and handstamp supports, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY D. FORBES.
