BAGGAGE LABEL.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:

Be it known that I, J. M. MARCH, of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a. new mode for Labelling Baggage Cars, Freight Cars, Trunks, and other Baggage Parcels; and I do hereby decline that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying draiwng, and to -letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in securing the label of any baggage or freight our, trunks, etc., etc., from being removed except by the proper persons. N

A represents the side of a. car B, the main plete; C, designated by the blue lines, the l glassplate over' the cord D bearing the inscription E, groove on thewnnder side of main plate B, in which is pressed bar by its springs F, the aperture or recess through which is passed card D; G, a smell groove, running from each end of main plate B, descending towards the middle, and through which may pass any rain or water striking glass C. This groove muy or muy not be used. H, u rod, running from the under port of the car on the inside in rear of the side of the car, and between the lining, and on which Vis fastened wheel I, the cogs of which are seen through the crevice N, and also to which is attached the thumb-wheel J, by which means the rod H is revolved, end in this act passes the card D in or out through the aperture or recess F. K, mbar of steel, which is forced into the groove E by its springs, except when drawn down by cord L. L, cord, fastened to bar K, and projecting to the under part of the car, ambie fastened to plate M. M, un iron plate, -fastened with hinges or any suitable fastening'on the under port of the/car, and secures and protects rod H and cord L, Vund to be used with a spring lock or catch, if desired. ff"

When applied to trunks, etc., etc., the rod H and cord L will be shortened und worked from the inside` of such baggage parcels, thereby dispensing entirely with plate M. This case, plate B, to beconstructed of V malleable iron or brass, or any other sui'tubfe material, und to be attached to such bagga-.ge or freight parcel by means of rivets,scre\vs, or nnils, and clenched on the inside.

What I claim es my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Securing the label of baggage or freight curs, trunks, or other baggage parcels, which can be shifted only by the propel' person, when applied to baggage or freight cars, and from the inside when applied to trunks and other baggage parcels. i
