FRIEDRICH Ft'lRSTE, OF LEIPSIC, GERMANY.
PRINTING- MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming. part of Letters Patent No. 686,047, dated November 5, 1901.
' Application filed March 23,19oo. Serial No. 9,910. (Nomorlel-l To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH FoRsrE, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Leipsic, Saxony, Germany, have invented .cert-ain new and useful Improved Printingticularly pointed out in the claims.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
' Figure 1 is a vertical section on the line 0 O of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan of the machine;- Fig. 3 a section on line NN of Fig. 1; Fig. 5%, a similar sectiouto that of Fig. 1, showing the type-bed in operati e position as regards the impression-drum; Fig. 5 is apart verti-.
cal cross-section of a modified form of the invention, and Fig. 6arear view of Fig. 5
The shaft h, carrying the impression-cylinder B, and the shaft 1), carrying the typebed-carrier cylinder F,-'are both 11101111131 6. i0 rotate in the side frames A A. The type carrying drum F is interrupted longitec-dnally to receive the type-bed O, which is mounted by means of downwardly-extending lateral lugs on a shaft a, supported in the two arms D on the shaft of drum F. The type-bed is-adapted to tip on the shaft aand is further provided with downwardly extending lugs at each end, to which is fitted a shaft d, running parallel to the shaft 0.. Strong springs c c,wound on the shafts a and d, tend to press the shaft 01 and with it the end of the type-bed outward away from the shaft 12, the said springs being held in tension by means of the arm f of shaft a. resting on the shaft 19, as will be evident from the drawings. f v
The ends of the shaft d are provided with rolls 9 g, which run on cam-ledges E, fast on the frames A A and prevent the type-bed from turning over when the same has passed the type-bed comesinto contact with the im- I pression cylinder B the former will yield, owing to the springs c o, and will thus press every part of the type-bed evenly and exactly onto or against the impression-cylinder, thus producing a perfectly-clear letter-press free from blur.
The inking-rollers r are mounted in slots 4% of arms r, pivoted in the machine-frame. Thus these rolls may move and adjust themselves in their slots both to the curved surface of the drum F and to the flat surface of the part C. The full part of the drum F thus serves as ink-distributing roll.
Another form of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6. In this case the typebed 0 is supported by means of frames z i (only one is shown, but two are generally employed) on the shaft 19. The rearof the typebed is provided with teeth in which the teeth of a segment 1, fast on the shaft b, engage. Springs 7c,which are fastened to the shaft b or grip around the same and have their-ends attached to the frames "L 21, retain the typebed 0 in its normal position as regards the segment Z. This arrangement of the type bed G and the springs It enables the former to yield while being rotated by the segment, which is fast on the shaft b. The yielding of the type-bed will only take place while the same is passing 'the drum B, and as soon as it has left the said drum it will be automatically adjusted as regards the carrier-segment by the springs 70.
.I claim as my invention- 1. In a printing-machine the combination of an ink-distributing cylinder having longitudinal slot, a type-bed pivotally mounted therein and springs to normally tip it out* wardly, an impression-cylinder toward which said bed is tipped and cams to return the bed to the cylinder after it has passed the impression-drum, a series of inking -rolls mounted above said distributing-cylinder springs to normally tip the said bed outflat bed in the manner and for the purpose 1o wardly, an impression-cylinder toward which substantially as described. said bed is tipped and means for pushing the In witness whereof I have hereunto set my latter back toward the drum after it has hand in presence of two witnesses.
5 passed the said impression-cylinder, a series of ink-rolls mounted above the said ink-dis FRIEDRICH FORS tributing cylinder and means for enabling Witnesses: the same to adjust themselves automatic- MORITZ SPREER, ally to the curved cylinder-surface or to the l RUDOLPH FRICKE.
