easily attached to and detached from the cuff,

and which has the advantage that two heads of equal size can be used instead of one of larger and the other of smaller size, as in the link cuff-buttons heretofore in use, for the reason that owing to the construction the shanks only and not the heads of the buttons .are passed through the buttonholes of the cuff for attaching and detaching the buttons.

The invention consists of a link cuff-button which comprises two separable members, one member being composed of a head and a tubular shank on said head, provided with a longitudinal slot having an enlargement, and the other member of a head and a shank provided with a stud for engaging the tubular shank at said enlargement, said tubular shank having spring tension tending to normally close said slot to a width less than the diameter of said stud. go

Referring to the drawings, my improved link-button is composed of two separable portions A B, each being provided with a head and asuitable straightorcurved shank. The heads of each portion are preferably made of the same size, and one head A is provided with a preferably curved tubular shank a, having a slot on, provided with an enlargement (1 at its inner end, while the other head B is provided with a shank b, that corresponds in shape and size to the interior diameter of the tubular shank a, so as to pass readily into the same. The shank b is provided, preferably at the same distance from the head 13 as the enlargement a from the outer end of the shank a,with a pin 1), which isof slightly greater thickness than the width of the slot and which is adapted to enter the enlargement, and thereby engage the shank ct and retain the two members of the button together. The shank a is made of suitable material having spring tension, so as to yield when the pin passes along the slot and return to its normal position when the pin onters the enlargement.

When applying my improved link-button to the cuff, the tubular shank is passed through the buttonhole at one side of the cuff and the shank of the opposite'head through the opposite butt-onhole of the cuff. The solid shank is inserted into the tubular shank and the heads pushed toward each other until the pin b enters the enlargement of the slot. The two members of the link-button are thereby firmly held together, the engagement of the pin with the tubular shank, owing to the spring tension of the latter, being sufficient to retain the'members together under the ordinary conditions of use. When the button is to be removed, a quick pull in opposite directions is exerted on the heads, so that the shanks come apart and can be withdrawn from the buttonholes of the cuff and the button is ready for being inserted into another cufi.

' My improved link-button for cuffs has the advantage that it can be readily applied to and removed from the cuff; a second advantage is that heads of equal size can be used, which could not be done heretofore, as one of the heads had to be smaller than the other,- so that it could be passed through the buttonhole of the cuff, and, thirdly, by the uniform size of the heads a more ornamental and attractive link-button is formed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A link-button for cuffs, consisting of two separable members, one member being composed of a head, and a tubular shank on said head, provided with a longitudinal slot having an enlargement, and the other member of a head, and a shank provided with a stud for engaging the tubular shank at said enlargement, said tubular shank having spring tension tending to normally close said slot to a Width less than the diameter of said stud, substantially as set forth.
