TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JAMES S. CHARLES, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas, and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and improved Fountain Pen-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will ena-ble others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

The fountain pen-holder embraced in the present invention is made in two parts or sections, arranged to move one within the other, arid relatively so constructed that the ink can be drawn in at one end, and from the other discharged or expelled upon the pen attached or inserted at such end, as and in a manner to be hereinafter described.

In the accompanying pla-te of drawings, my improved fountain pen-holder is illustrated, the figure being a central longitudinal section through the pemholder.

A, in the drawings, represents a pen-holder, made, according' to the present invention, in two parts or sections B and C, of a tubular form, one arranged to move within the other from end to end. One end of the outer casing or tube B terminates in a. conical and tapering-shaped `spout, D, and from its other end projects one end of the inner tube or section C, that at such end is closed and adapted to receive and hold a peu of any of the ordinary forms, but at its other and inner end is closed by a head-plate, E, with an aperture, a, in its centre. At the head-plate E the tube is packed by an exterior ring,.b, of India rubber or other suitable material. c, a tube upon inside of'interior tube C, which tube communicates with the snme at one end, and at its other passing out of the tube C down the pen, secured in such end ofthe said tube where it opens to the pen. This tube c is fastened to one side of the inner tube C, und at its other end is bent, so that by screwing in or out the set-screw F, the open end of such bent portion can be opened to the tube C, or allowed to close against it.

In using a penholder constructed as above described, it is first filled with ink to any degree required, by first immersiug the funnel-shaped spout to the outer tube in the ink, and then working the inner tube C in and out of the exterior tube B, as with acommon syringe, which causes the ink to he drawn or sucked into the same, fromy which it passes through the aperture b into the tube c, and thence can be discharged upon the pen, as may be desired from time to time, by opening aud closing the passage to the pen through the set-screw;A or by properly constructing or forming the tube, it may be allowed to flow in a` continuous stream thereon. i The setscrew may be dispensed with, if so desired, leaving the ink-tube or passage always open to the pen; but- I deem it best to use it.'

I claim ns new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The inner andouter tube B and C, ink-passage or tube c, in combination with each other, when all construc-ted so as to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
