'IO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, I P, WARNER, of Marengo, in the county of'MeHenry, in the State of Illinois, have invented a new nud improved Mode of Stretching Carpets; and I do hereby declare that the following is :t'full und exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists i'n providing n lever, A, hftving:r one or more points, B, on the lower vend thereof', which points are to be inserted into the floor., and a, foot, C, attached to the lever near the bottom end thereof, 'with hooks or teeth, D, to be inserted into the carpet, the foot to be attached to the lever by u, hinge or joint. Also, o row of notches, E, along the top of the foot, and a brace, F, attached to the lever so as that the lower end thereof can be inserted into the notches, thereby enabling the operator to retain what the machine secures until the tack is driven.
The hooks or teeth may be of iron, steel, or other metal, and may be bent or curved. The band at bottom of lever may be round or square, and the points may be straight, bent, or curved. The brace and notches may be of Wood or metal, the lever of wood, and the hinges of brass, steel, or iron.
This machine, although simple and cheap, will stretch the carpet from one side of a. room to the other with .great ease, und hold it until the tack is driven, and can be used without inconvenience to thc operator or injury to the carpet.
What I claim as my invention is The combination of' the lever A with the points B, 'and hinged foot C, with hooks D. notches E, and brace F, as and for the purpose specified.
