CHARLES H. DOME, OF PRESCOTT, ARKANSAS.
SUSPENDER-END ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 674,731, dated May' 21, 1901.
Application led September 27, 1900'. Serial No. 31,304. dln model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES H. DOME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prescott, in the county of Nevada and State of Arkansas, haveinvented certain new and useful 'Improvements in Suspender-End Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved suspender-end attachment, and has for its obj ect the production of an attachment which is simple of construction, adapted to securely engage the trousers', and capable of yielding to a desirable degree, so as to conform readily to the movements of the body and provide an article which can be worn with ease and comfort.
- The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the-accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevational view of a suspender attach- Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section thereof. Fig. 3 isa detail perspective View of the suspending-frame.
A in the drawings represents myimproved suspender-end attachment, which comprises in its construction a band or belt B, constructed of a series of jointed links of wire or other suitable material and adapted to bend easily to conform to the contour of the body, but rigid against vertical movement. These links are provided with clasps C to engage the waistband of trousers to hold the belt or band securely connected, and a ribbon or plate spring D is connected to said links and extends longitudinally of the belt and serves to reinforce and prevent the same from doubling upon itself, while allowing ample flexibility. To the belt are connected a series of arc or segmental shaped links or stays E, arranged in rows and forming a pyramidalshaped yielding frame. The number of links in each row decreases gradually from the bottom or base of the frame to the top or apex of the frame, the lower row containing four 4 such links, the one next above three, the second two, and the uppermost one. The ends of these links project downwardly and the links of the bottom row are rigidly connected at their ends to the belt B, while the links of the other three rows 4are connected at their ends to said bottom row and to each other by pulleysf or other sliding connections, whereby they are adapted to adjust themselves to the movements of the body7 and to assume an inclination in either direction longitudinally of the band or belt. The links are preferably constructed of rigid wire, so as to obviate independent bending ortwisting thereof. To the uppermost link of the pyramidal yielding frame is connected a suspending-frame consisting of three inverted links E', arranged onev below the others, the lower link being connected to said upper link of the pyramidal frame by a double pulley f' and provided at its ends with pulleys g', through which the other two links of the suspending-frame pass. These two last-named links are connected at their inner ends to a head or button g and are provided at their outer ends with similar heads or buttons g. These heads or buttons are adapted to engage the suspender-ends H.
It will be readily seen from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, that when one side of the body is bent the links will move upon one another to accommodate therefor, as they will also do when the body is moved from side to side, and that a freely yieldable attachment adapted to be comfortably worn is accordingly provided.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Asuspender-end attachment comprising a yielding frame composed of a series of arcshaped links slidably connected, and means for connecting said frame to the suspenderends and waistband of the trousers, substantially as set forth.
2. Asuspender-end attachmentcomprising a yielding frame composed of 'links movably connected, a jointed eXihle belt provided with means to engage the waistbands of trousers, and suspending means for connecting said frame to suspender-ends, substantially as set forth.
3. Asuspender-end attachment comprising IOO neel ed to the base of the pyramidal frame and provided with means to engage the waistband of trousers, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set I5 my hand in presence of two subscribing Witmesses.
CHARLES H. DOME.
