TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERNE Be it known that I, SAMEL IVIcDONALD, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, hare invented a new and useful Bed-Bottom; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part ofthis specification. I
The object of this invention is a cheap and durable springfbed bottom, of-easy application to anyordnary bedstead, and vwhich admits of shipment in small compass and in few parts. In. the 'accompanying drawings-- Figure 1 shows part of a bedstead with my spring bottom attached. i A l Figure 2 shows the rubber loop with a section'of a cleat cut through at Vthe gain.
VFigure 'shows a modification, in which a rubber cord takes the place of the wood cleats in g.
A A are the posts, and B B" the head and side rails of a bedstead. .To the rails are attached cleats C, which may be of wood or metal, or other suitable substances. In gains D, in the cleats, 4rubber loops E suspend bearing-rods F. The bearing-rods F support the longitudinal slats G, which slats'are supported in one or moreV places between the ends by transverse slat or slats H, which transverse slats are supported by their appropriate rods F, and have appropriate gains to receive the slats G. In fig. 3 is seen a cord, I, of India rubber, stapled, i, to the rails to form elastic cleats, in place ofthe wood or metal cleats C. i
i It will be seen that my improvement may be applied to any common bedstead with but a slight expenditure, and without damaging it in any way.
'I claim herein as new and of my invention-- The supporting-rods F and elastic loops E, sustained by either a rm or a yielding attachment to the hedstead, and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand. i SAMUEL McDONALD.
