SEAT FUR CHAIRS.
(Application med Sept. 22, 1900.)
(lo Model.)
al al UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILHELM WEILL, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
SEAT FOR CHAIRS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 671,742, dated April 9, 1901.
Application filed September 22, 1900. Serial No. 30,830. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM WEILL, a citizen ofthe free city of Hamburg, residing at Hamburg, in the German Empire, have iuvented certain new and useful Improvements in Seats for Chairs or the Like, (for which I have applied for patents in Germany, dated October 28, 1899; in Austria, dated August 16, 1900, and in Hungary, No. 12,112, dated August 25, 1900,) of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is an improvement in chairs and the like; and the-objects of my improvement are to cheapen the construction and lessen the weight thereof, while affording them great strength.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure l is a front view of the improved chair, the seat being partly shown in section on the line ne oc of Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof, partly in section.
The chair shown resembles an ordinary bent-wood chair; but the seat a is provided with a flange c, made in one piece, with the surface of the seat in any suitable way. In lieu of the framework of the seat of a chair of usual construction intersecting pieces d d, of wood or other suitable material, are provided, Which are connected at their ends to the legs of the chair. The fore legs can be let into'holes in the front ends of the pieces ol, as indicated at e, and the rear legs f, which may be made in one piece with the back, may be secured to the rear ends of pieces d by screws g, as indicated in Fig. 2, the screws also passing through the flange c of the seat.
The seat can of course be ornamented, if desired, and may be of any desired form.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-w In a chair, the combination of the legs, the seat having a depending flange, the intersecting seat-supporting pieces covered 4by the seat and arranged thereunder and having sockets in their front ends for the reception of the upper ends of the front legs, and screws securing the rear legs to the seat and to the rear ends of said pieces respectively, all suhstantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
WILHELM WEILL.
