Be it known that I, RUnoLrn OoorEnsMrru, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Davenport-Beds,of which the following is a specilication.

My invention relates to improvements in davonport-beds; and it consists of the novel features herein shown, described, and claimed.

Figure 1 is an end elevation of a davenportbed embodying the principles of my invention and set up as a davenport. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is a view analogous to Fig. 1 and showing the operation of making a bed out of the davenport. Fig. & is a sectional elevation on a plane parallel with Fig. I and taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the davenport-bed made up as a bed.

,Fig. 6 is a cross-section of the pads in position to make the bed.

My invention consists of a suitable seatframe, a suitable back-frame, vertical levers connecting the rear parts of the seat-frame to the upper part of the back-frame, horizontal levers connecting the front part of the seatframe to the lower part of the back-frame, legs extending from the rear ends of the horizontal levers to support the back-frame when in its horizontal position to make abed, a seat-pad secured to the seat-frame, a back-pad secured to the back-frame, and a third pad connecting the forward edge of the seat-pad to the lower edge of the back-pad.

Referring to thedrawings in detail, the seatframe 7 may be of any suitable wood or iron construction, and the back-frame 8 may be of a similar construction. Vertical levers 9 connee-t the rear part of the seat-frame to the upper part of the back-frame, and horizontal levers 10 connect the forward part of the seatframe to the lower part of the back-frame, said levers being crossed, so that the backframe may be stepped over from its normal vertical position back of the seat-frame, as shown in Fig. 1, to its horizontal position in front of and on a level with the seat-frame, as shown in Fig. 5. The legs 11 extend upwardl y from the rear ends of the horizontal levers 10, so that when the back is in its horizontal position the legs will support the forward part of the back and make a bed. Stops 12 project laterally from the upper ends of the legs 11 behind the upper ends of the levers 9 and prevent the back from tipping backwardly beyond its vertical position.

The sea t-pad 13 is secured to the seat-frame, the back-pad 14 is secured to the back-frame, and the third pad 15 connects the forward edge of the seat-pad to the lower edge of the back-pad. The forward :face of the back-pad is finished, and the upper face of the third pad is finished to be in sight and in use as a davenport. thick as both the back-pad and the third pad, so that when the bed is made the back-pad and third pad together form the front half of the bed and present a level unfinished smooth surface upwardly, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.

In connecting the back to the seat by the levers 9 and 10 caremust be taken to get the pivots the right distance apart and in the right relation to each other, so that the back will fit closely in front of the seat when it is desired to make a bed and so that it will fit closely behind the seat when it is desired tomake a davenport.

In a companion application filed March 23, 1905, Serial No. 251,582, for davenport-pads I show, describe, and claim the pad shown in this application, and I do not wish to claim the pad in this application.

I claim 1. In adavenportbed; aseat-frame; a backframe; a pad upon the seat-frame; a second pad upon the back-frame; a third pad connecting the forward edge of the seat-pad to the lower edge of the back-pad; vertical levers connecting the rear part of the seat-frame to the upper part of the back-frame; and horizontal levers connecting the forward part of the seat-frame to the lower part of the backframe, so that the back may he stepped over from its vertical position behind the seat to its horizontal position in front of the seat.

In a davenport-bed; a seat; a back; vertical levers connecting the rear part of the seat to the upper part of the back; and horizontal levers connecting the forward part of the seat to the lower part of the back; so that the back may be stepped over from its vertical position behind theseat to its horizontal position in front of the seat; legs extending upwardly from the rear ends of the horizontal levers; and stops in position to limit the backward motion of the back.

In adavenport-bed; aseat-frame; a backframe; aseat-pad upon the seat-frame; a backpad upon the back-frame; a third pad connecting the forward edge of the seat-pad to the lower edge of the back-pad; said seat-pad being substantially as thick as both the back-pad and the third pad; and means of stepping the back-frame from its vertical position over to its horizontal position.

5, In a davenport-bed; a seat-frame; a backframe; ascat-pad upon the seat-frame; a backpad upon the back-frame; a third pad connecting the forward edge of the seat-pad to the lower edge of the back-pad; and means of stepping the baek-frame from its vertical position behind the seat-frame to the horizontal position in front of the seat-frame.

6. In adavenport-bed; aseat-frame; a backframe; a seat-pad upon the seat-frame; a backpad upon the back-frame; a third pad connecting the forward edge of the seat-back to the lower edge of the back-pad; the upper face of the third pad and the forward piece of the back-pad being finished for use in a clavenport, and the other pieces of the pad being unfinished, and means of stepping the backframe from its vertical position to its horizontal position, so that when the bed is made the seat-pad and lower face of the third pad will present a smooth and unfinished upper surface.
