STOP AND WASTE COCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 669,815, dated March 12, 1901.
Application filed November 10, 1900. serial No. 36,044. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DELBERT E. TRAHERN, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, havein vented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop and Waste Cocks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a stop and waste cock in which the plug has a movement of a quarter-turn and limited at both ends of the movement by a cap having a connection with the plug and movable therewith and the casing provided with stops against which the cap comes in contact.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an isometrical representation of the handle. Fig. 2 is an isometrical representation of the cap. Fig. 3 is an isometrical representation of the plug. Fig. 4 is an isometrical representation of the casing. Fig. 5 is an isometrical representation of the washer. Fig. 6 is an isometrical representation of the nut. Fig. 7 is an isometrical representation of the cap as seen from the under side.
The casing 1 is of the usual construction, having a water passage-way 2 and an opening 3 for a plug of tapered form. A waste passage-way 4 is formed through the casing, and the upper end of the casing has two projections 5, forming stops. A plug 6 is of a form to fit the tapered opening in the casing and is held in connection with the casing by the usual washer 7 and nut 8. This plug has a water passage-way 9 and an opening 10 for the waste water. The upper portion of the plug has a ring 11 extending therefrom and the ring provided with two notches 12. That portion 13 of the plug above the ring is of cylindrical form and has a square opening 14 extending in the lengthwise direction of the plug. The cap has an outer wall 15, an upper contracted end 16, and a projection 17, located on the inside of the wall 15. A handle 18 has a projection 19, fitted to enter the square opening 14 in the plug, and a set-screw 20, screw-threaded into the upper portion of the plug, holds the handle in position.
The parts are assembled in the following order: The plug is placed in its opening in the casing and the washer and nut placed in position on the end of the plug. The cap is placed on the upper portion of the plug, so that the projection 17 is located in one of the notches 12 of the ring 11 and extends between the stops 5, located on the upper portion of the casing. The handle is then placed in connection with the plug, and the set-screw 20, turned in against the handle, will hold the cap and handle in position.
The projection 17 of the cap forms a connection between the plug and casing, and the movement of the plug is limited by the projection moving in contact with the stops 5, extending from the upper face of the casing, in order to open the main water passage-way, close the waste-water passage-way, or open the waste-water passage-way and close the main water passage-way.
By forming the ring 11 with two notches 12 the projection of the cap can be located in either notch, thereby moving the handle to either the right or left to suit the purchaser.
I claim as my invention- In a stop and waste cock, the combination. of a casing having two stops extending from its upper surface, a plug movable in connection with the casing having a ring provided with two notches, the upper portion of the plug being cylindrical in form, a cap located over and supported by the ring, and having a projection located in one of the notches and between the stops, and a handle having a connection with the plug.
DELBERT E. TRAHERN.
