JOHN H. KENNEDY, OFr CLEVELAND, OHIO.
STOP AND WASTE COCK.
v SPECIFICATION forming .part of VLetters Patent No. 292,824, dated February 5, 1884.
Application tiled August 2, 1883. (No modeLl .To all wiz/0m, it may concern.-
Be-it'known that I, JOHN H. KENNEDY, of
Cleveland, in the county of Y Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop and Vaste Cocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make` anduse the same.
My invention relates to improvements in stop and waste cocks; and it consists in certain features of construction, and in combination of parts, hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, Fig. 2 a plan view, and Fig. 3 a vertical sectional'view, of a stop and waste cock embody ing my invention.
A represents the body of the valve, threaded at each end to receive a pipe, and with a small orifice through the proj ectioira, through which water may be drained from Jrhe pipes.
Bis the plug or valve proper, secured below, in the usual lmanner, by a nut and washer.
C is a cap that fits the upper end of the valve, and may be secured thereto by a pin, screw, or other suitable fastening.
C is an arm projecting from the cap C, and turning downward, as shown, and, when in position on the part B, engages in either direction the stops aand a2, (shown on the part A.) The cap G terminates above in a part squared or attened to engage a removable key or other suitable device. It will be seen that when the cap is removed the plug B may be revolved' without any hinderance in the process of grinding in the valve; also, the part G may be made of Ymalleable iron or other cheaper material than the valve is made of, thereby considerably reducing the cost. The internal construction i's similar to other valves of this class. The valve, as'shown in Fig. 3, is closed, and in this position, by means of the orifice b, theV pipes atthe left hand of the valve may be drained, the water passing through the valve B and out of the orifice at a.
` I am aware it is not new to provide a valvecasing with laterally-projecting lugs and a valve to the upper end of which is removably secured a lever provided with a downwardlyprojecting arm, which latter rests between the lugs on the valve-casing, and hence I make no claim thereto; but What I claim is- The combination,'with the valve-body constrncted as described, and provided with the laterally-projecting stops and a plug-valve, of the'cap adapted to be'removably secured t0 the projecting end of the plug-valve, and provided with an angular upper end for the attachment of a removable key or other suitable device, and with an arm, C, all of the above parts combined and adapted to operate as described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 26th day of July, 1883.
' JOHN H. KENNEDY.
Vitnesses:
J'No. CRowELL, CHAs. H. DoRER.
