PO RTAB LE BATH-TU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,070, dated March 5, 1901.
Application filed November 4, 1899. Serial No. 735,820. (No motlelfi To (LZ/f whom, it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, EMILIE BREIDE, residing at Cape Girardeau, in the county of Cape Girardeau and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Portable Bath-Tub,of which the following is a specioation.
My invention is in the nature of a bidet or portable bath-tub especially designed for the use of invalid ladies, the object of the invention being to generally improve the construction of such devices with a view to lightness, durability, and capacity of folding into a small compass for purposes of storage and transportation.
With this object in view my invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and afterward speciiically pointed out in the appended claim.
In order that others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may be enabled to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure l is a perspective view illustrating a device constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view on the plane indicated by the broken line 2 2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a top plan View. Fig. 4 is a view in side elevation of the supporting-stand with the legs folded.
Like letters of reference mark the same parts wherever they appear in the several iig- Aures of the drawings.
tion of each leg is provided with a lip or projection at its hinge to engage with the lower portion and limit its outward movement, thereby adding strength and rigidity to the parts when the tubis set up. Just above the hinges H braces I J are secured to the inside of the legs by means of rivets K, passed through the legs and through depending ends L of the braces. The braces cross each other diagonally and may be secured together at their crossing, if desired. The legs are bent horizontally outward at their lower ends to form feet M and vertically at their upper ends, as at N, said upper ends being riveted or otherwise secured to a rim O, of the same contour as the tub A and of a size greater than the body of the tub and less than its iiange C, so that when the tub is set into the rim, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the flange C will rest upon the rim O and firmly support the tub.
The whole arrangement is of about the height of a chair and will be extremely convenient for its intended uses. When not in use, the legs will be folded in, as in Fig. 4, thus permitting of more ready transportation and of storage in about one-half the space occupied when set up for use. The hinges H of the legs are constructed with stops H', which prevent the spreading of the legs beyond the proper position'to firmly support the tub.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a portable bath-tub, the combination with a frame, ofa tub iittingiu the space inclosed by said frame and depending from the latter, and having at its upper edge a surrounding outwardly-extending flange resting on the upper edge of the frame, sectional ogee legs, the upper sections of which are bent to form dat attaching portions which are secured to the frame, and the lower sections bent to form fiat feet, said sections '0eing hinged together with the lower sections swinging inwardly beneath the tub, and the upper sections formed with stops to limit the outward movement of the lower sections and braces secured to the upper sections above the hinges, substantially as described.
