MIRROR-SUPPORT.
SPEIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 651,129, dated June 5, 1900.
.Application led September 21,1899. Serial No. 731,151, (Model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST BECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, borough of Manhattan and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirror-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved mirror-support that can be used as an ordinary hand-mirror and stand or as a wall-mirror for shavin g and otherpurposes; and the invention consists of a mirror-support comprising certain features of construction and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described and then claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of myimproved mirror-support, showing the same in position as a stand. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the mirror suspended on a wall. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3, Fig. 1, drawn on a larger scale; v and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line e 4, Fig. 2, likewise drawn on a larger scale.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a mirror-plate which is provided with a backing B of pasteboard, wood, or other suitable material. The mirror-plate mayeither be a plain rectangular piece of looking-glass or a beveled plate, as desired.
C is the supporting-frame, which is made of a single piece of wire of suitable thickness, said -wire being bent into proper shape, the parallel main portion or arms d being bent inwardlyat their upperendsand eithersprung into metallic clasps D, that are attached to the sides of `the mirror-plate A,or sprung into suitable sockets in the back of the'mirrorplate, provided that said back is made of a layer of wood or other substance of sufficient thickness, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The clasps D are preferably made of sheet-brass or other suitable metal and tightly fitted to the front and back of the mirror-plate, being provided with a hole or depression for the inwardly-bent endsof the supporting-frame C, so as to form a pivotal connection between the frame and mirror-plate. The lower opposite ends of the parallel arms cl are bent inwardly at a suitable angle to the arms d, so as to form short approximately-alined inwardly-extending portions d', from which extends in backward direction a V-shaped portion or stay d2, which forms either the supporting portion of the wire frame, as shown in Fig. l, when the same is placed on abureau or other suitable piece of furniture, or which forms the hanger by which the mirror is suspended from a nail on the wall, as shown in Fig. 2. The V-shaped stay d2 may also be used as a handle when the mirror is used as a hand-mirror. The alined disposition of the portions d' furnishes a broad base for the mirror when the device is used as a stand and a rest for the same when the device is hung up, which prevents the wabbling or tipping over of the mirror.
My improved mirror-support has the advantage that by means of a very simple attachment of bent wire the mirror can be used as a hand-mirror o r as a mirror-stand on a piece of furniture or that it can be suspendedfrom the wall, so as to be used for shaving or other purposes. The attachmentcan be manufactured at small expense, especially when the wire frame is bent by means of suitable dies, while when a cheap mirrorplate is used in connection with the frame an inexpensive, yet very convenient and useful, mirror is obtained. The supportingframe can be used for supporting photographs or other pictures, advertising novelties, &c., in place of a mirror, in which case a plain or beveled glass plate may be used for covering the pictures, the attachment of the supporting-frame to the glass plate being made in the same manner as for the mirror-plates.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with a mirror-plate, of clasps applied over the side edges of the mirror-plate, a supporting-frame pivoted to said clasps and composed of arms having inwardly-bent ends, inwardly-bent portions at the other ends of said arms, and a stay extending backwardly from said inwardly-bent portions, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a mirror-plate, of a spring-metal supporting-frame provided with arms Within which the mirror-plate is arranged, and clasps at opposite sides of said fm1ne,engaging and clasping opposite sides of the mirror-plate, substantially as set forth.
The combination, with a, mirror-plate, of a, springmetal supporting-frame, and clasps pivoted to opposite sides of said frame and adapted lo engage over and clasp the 0pposte edges of the mirror-plate, whereby n pivotal connection between the mirror-plate and frame is provided, substantially as Set forth.
