Description

(No Model.) t
H. R. HEYL.
t Y SUSPENSION DEVICE. No. 264,947. Patented Sept. 26, 1882.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY R. HEYL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUSPENSION DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters :Patentv No. 264,947, dated September26, 1882.
Application tiled June 1, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known thatl, HENRY R. HEYL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspension-Hooks, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which roI Figures l and 3 are face views of suspensionhooks embodying my invention.4 Fig. 2 is a rear view of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical section in line w w, Fig. l. Y
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in the several figures.
My invention has for its Object a suspension-4 hook which may be easily and conveniently affixed to a wall or other desired locality without the employment of tacks, screws, or other 2o similar means.
The invention consists in constructing the article of a plate or support of pliable material, to which is secured a hook, stud, or equivalent piece having a forked or bifurcated end, said 2 5 piece projecting from the front face of the sup port, and the bark of the support having a coating Of glue, mucilage, Or other adhesive material by which it may be attached in position, it being found that the said piece has a 3o secure connection with the support, and is capable of enduring considerable strain Without liability to turn Or betorn from the support to which it is fastened by the bifurcated end, as above stated.
Referring to the drawings, A'represents a.
plate or support, and B a. hook, stud, or equivalent suspension-piece attached to the front face of said support so as to project therefrom. The support A is formed ot'paper, paper re-en forced by fabric, or other suitable flexible or pliable material, cut or pressed. into shape, and the back Of the support is coated with glue, muoilage, orother suitableadhesivesubstance. The piece B has the lend which is attached to the support A bifurcated, as at a, the bifurcation being'passed through the support and clamped (No model.)
thereupon, thus making at least two places of attachment of the piece with the plate. The piece B, when of the form of a hook, may be constructed of wire, sheet metal, Ste.. 5o
It is possible to make the plates or supports A of a great variety Of forms and shapes, and they may be made to represent, by embossing, printing, coloring, Src., owers, leaves, and oth. er objects, and, if desired, the piecelB may be pointed, and thus be serviceable as a bill-tile,
a great variety of designs being com prchend ed in my invention, the bifurcation a being preserved in each case.
It will be seen that by means of the coating 6o on the back of the support A the latter maybe made to adhere to a Wall or other locality. The projecting suspension-pieceB provides convenient means of hanging pictures, & c., and said piece, owing to the secure connection with the support afforded by the bifurcated 'end a, is prevented from turning Or being torn from po sition, as said end takes hold ot the support at, at least, two distinct places. Furthermore, the f entire device may be easily constructed, andis 7o simple and inexpensive.
I am aware that it isnot new to form asuspension-hook Ot'a support having its back coated with adhesive substance and a hook or knob secured to the support so as to project in front thereof, and therefore do not claim the same; but,
Having fully described my invention and the advantages thereof, what I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved suspension-hook consisting of a support having a connected suspension-piece in front and a coating Of adhesive substance on g the back, said suspension-piece having a bifurcated end, by which it is secured to the support, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
