Be it known that I, ISAnO Penaten-,of Bridgeton, in the county oi Cumberland, und State of New Jersey, have invented s. new and improved Bedstead; and l:A do hereh5r declare that the following is a full, clear, und exact desciption thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to malte and use the seme, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speoation, in which- Y Figure 1 is ,u .vertical longitudinal section of :ny improved hedsteed taken through the line x sv, fig.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hedstea, so constructed and arranged thetrthe weight upon thofhehottom muy press against the shouiers or ends of the eide and end rails, so that the poste muy he detached without taking the bed-bottom apart, und thot the=slats rosy he easily turned over for dusting. And it consists in the frame for supporting theelats, in combination with theposts of the hedsteed, Vin the combination of the post-sockets with 'the side and end rails with the posts and with the supporting frame, und in Stringing the slots upon, vor connecting them with, e. cord 'or tape, eo that they may be easily turned over for dusting without getting them out of their proper relative positions, the whole being constructed and arranged in the manner hereinafter more fully described. A are the side mile, and B are the end reiis of' the bedstead, the ends of which rest against the'sockets C of the posts D. The sockets C muy he round, as shown in the drawings, or they may be square or oetagonni, us may be desired, und they should have lnngea or projections formed upon them to keep the rails in their proper position. The posts D muy be passed upti'igongh the sockets C, or they may he made in two pieces und screwed into the seid sockets, or the lower psrtemoy screw into the upper parte. This latter construction would allee' the upper parte ot' said poste to be perxnanently connected with head und foot-boards. E und F uro the *side-hars, and G end'H are theend-hure o the supporting frame. These hars are connected together double hooks, I, hooking through the ends of the seid bars, and through eyes, J, formed upon o1' attached to the sockets 0,' as shown in tigo. 1, 2, und 3. In cose the frame lE F Gr H is attached to an ordinary bedstend, the eyes J are attached directly to the poste. The end-hor H of the supporting frame is mode in two parte, connected to each other hy a. swivelied or double screw, K, so that the said frame can he strained to any desired tightness. L are the slots, which are extended across the liedstesd, with their ends resting uponl the side-bars E and F of the supporting'frame. The slots ore kept in their proper reletive positions hy the cord or tape M, passed through slots in the ends of the slats L, and around the ends'of the said slats, as shown in figs. 3 and 4, so that the slut con be' turned over, when desired, for dusting or o ny'other purpose. By this construction, by removing the posts D the bedsteod isiy redueed to a. very oonvenient forin for moving or transportation ;V and by putting tivo of these bed-bottoms together, with the bedahetyeen them, and securing them to euch other at the corners, e very convenient case is formed for carrying inrrors or other'delioote articles of furniture safely.

Hoving thus described my invention, vrhot claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Potent, is-

1. The frame E F G H K and hooks I, or their equivuent, inoemhinstion with elch otherY and with the poste D, substantially in the manner herein shown und described, and Vfor the purpose sot forth.

2. The post sockets C, in combination with the posts' D, raiis A. and B, und frame E F G H K, substantiolly as herein shown and described, and for the purpose'set forth."
