7 Be it known that I, HENRY C. MEEKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Desh- 'ler, in the county of I-Ienry and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing-Machines; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked" thereon, in which- V Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wash-v ing-machine,showing my improvements properly arranged. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the draining-tube. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the draining-tube-holding nut. Fig. 4 is a detached View of one of the standards, showin g one end of the rock-bar located in its normal position. Fig. 5 is a detached view of one of the-corner-clips. Fig. 6 is adetached view of one of the le -clips. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of one of the standards, showing portions of the rubbing-head, the rock-bar, and one of the levers. Fig. 8 is a View showing a portion of the body, also showing the bottom or lower end of one of the standards. Fig. 9 is an edge view of one of the standards, showing it properly connected to the washing-machine body.

The present invention has relation to washing-machines; and it consists in the difierent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar numbers of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the Washing machine body or receptacle, which is preferably formed of sheet metal and is substantially of the form shown, and, as shown, its bottom is concaved, so as to pro duce substantially a semicylinder and upon which are located the ribs-2, which ribs are connected in any convenient and well-known manner. The upper portion or top of the washing-machine body 1 is rectangular, as

illustrated in Fig. 1,

For the purpose of adding strength to the washing-machine body 1 the side members of said body are provided with the heads 3, which beads are formed by rolling a portion of the metal; The beads 3 are formed of a length to correspond with the length of the upper edges of the body 1 and are for the purpose hereinafter described.

The standards 4 are substantially of the form shown and are provided with the grooves 5, which grooves are closed at their bottom or lower ends, as illustrated in Fig. 7. The standards 4 are provided with the flanges 6, which flanges extend outward and are curved downward. The curvature of the flanges 6 corresponds with the curvature of the beads 3, so that said flanges will fit over the beads when the standards are placed in their normal position. The standards 4 are also pro vided with the arms 7, which arms are so located that they will come upon the inner side faces of the body 1 when placed in proper po sition.

It will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to provide means for securely attaching the standards to the sides of the body and at the same time so con= nect the standards that they will be firmly held in an upright position.

The leg-clips 8 are substantially of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 6, and, as shown, they are located upon the outer sides of the side members composing the body and are pro vided with the tapered ends 9, thereby form= ing clips which taper toward their upper sides, said clips being so formed for the purpose of receiving the upper ends of the legs 10, as

illustrated in Figs. 1 and 6. The clips 8 are securely bolted or riveted to the side members of the body. The arms 7 are securely bolted to the side members of the body 1 and to the legs 10 by means of the bolts 11, by which arrangement a strong connection is made between the legs and the standards,

Ithereby removing the strain from the metal vided with the ordinary levers 14 and the operating-handle 15.

The end pieces 16 are preferably formed of wood, and are formed of that material for the purpose of adding rigidity to the washingmachine body proper, and for the purpose of providing a means for connecting the wooden ends 16 to the side members the clips 17 are provided, which clips are formed right and left, so that they can be properly attached, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The clips 17 are provided with the rounded portions 18, which fit over the ends of the beads 3, and the angled flanges 19 fit upon the top edges and outer sides of the end pieces 16 and are securely connected to said end pieces by suitable lugbolts or their equivalents.

The draining-tube 20 is provided with the flange 21 and the screw-threaded portion 22, said draining-tube being extended through a suitable aperture formed in the lower portion of one of the side members of the body 1, so as to bring the flange 21 against the outer face of said side member after the retainingmut 23 is placed upon the screw-threaded portion 22 upon the inside of the side member, by which arrangement the draining-tube is securely connected and at the same time so connected as to form a water-tight joint.

By the use of the clips 17 the wooden strips or end pieces can be connected to the metal strips in such a manner that the shrinking and swelling of said end pieces common to washing-machines will not afiect or loosen the connection between said end pieces and the said members.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a washing-machine the combination of the bodyl formed of sheet metal, the integral heads 3 located upon the upper sides of the body, the standards 4 provided with the grooves 5 closed at their bottom or lower ends, the flanges 6 extended outward and downward and over the heads 3, the arms 7 located upon the inner side faces of the body 1, the legclips 8 located upon the outer sides of the members composing the body and provided with the tapered ends 9, the legs 10, the rockbar 12 and the rubbing-head 13, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination of the body 1 formed as shown, and provided with the beads located upon the outer sides or portions of the body, end pieces 16, clips 17 provided with the rounded portions 18, and the beads fitted into said rounded portions 18, and the angled flanges 19, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
