J. F. LANING. v MAN'IFOLDING SALES BOOK.
(Apph at o# filed Mar 1 1899) I(Ilo Model.)
IINrTED .TAY F. LANING, or NORWALK, OHIO.
EVIANIFOLDING SALES-BOOK.,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,259, dated October 17, 1899.
'Application filed March l, 1899. Serial No. 707,390. (No model.)
To au w/tom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, JAY F. LANING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norwalk, county of IjIuron, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Salesrnens Copying Check-Books, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in salesmens copying checkbooks; and my Objects are to simplify the form of the book and add to its convenience in use.
My invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafterdescribed, shown ,in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a plan View ofthe check-strip when opened up.
In the views, l is the check-.strip which is shown folded transversely in zigzag to form the book and secured by staple's 2 to the ilexible back and cover 3, which are formed in one piece. The check-strip is perforated longitudinally at the folds at 4, so that the checks can easily be separated from one another, and the check-section is partially disengaged from the stub 5 in the fol1owing.`manner 1 Every other check is cut free from the pad or stub, as at 6, and the checks alternating therewith are perforated on the line of separation, thus al- 'lowing the first or upper check to be lifted for the insertion of the carbon slip, each section orpair of checks consisting of an original and duplicate to be severed from the stub by a continuous movement in one direction.
In this manner the arrangement of the checks will be found very convenient, the upper check being readily lifted and the next one torn 4loose by a left to right movement, or vice versa, the section being finally separated into original and duplicate checks on the longitudinal line.
A clerks record is shown printed upon the inside of the cover.
Having described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-
A strip folded transversely in zigzag, each section comprising an original and a duplicate check, and each check having at the side a corresponding stub by which the parts are bound; alternate stubs being'completely separated from the corresponding checks, and the remaining stubs having a line of perforations along which they may be separated from ltheir checks, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand this 27th day of February, 1899.
JAY F. LANING.
