a. E. DOTY, OFYILION, NEW YORK-ASSIGNQR TO J. I. NEW AND 0 1100% Letters Patent No. 62,119, dated February 19, 1867."
IMPROVEMENT I N SLE IGHS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
. Be it known that I, A. E. DOTY, of Ilion, in the county of Herkimer, and State of New York, have invented v a new and improved Mode of Building Bob-Sleighs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this s ed.- fication, in whicbr Figure 1 is a plan or top view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a. side view of the same.
Figure 3 is a back view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts of difi'erent figures.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, Iwill proceed to describe it, as follows: I l
' A represents the reach and bottom of the box, both one, thus dispensing with the usualcoup'l ing. B is .a
rocker, bolted firmly to the bottom side and front end of the bottom, and confined by a centre-bolt to the bridgepiece of the forward sleigh, permitting a rotary and oscillating motion on said sleigh. G C are the runners,
curved upwardand inward, both back and front, and attached to the beams, as shown in figs. 1 and 3. D is the end of beam on hind sleigh. F F is the manner of attaching braces to the runner, with one resting-place under the beam, as seen infig. 2. G is the manner of attaching the ox-bow brace to the runner. H is a joint, permitting a slight motion of the hindsleigh at either end, up or down, and is the point, and draught attachment. K is the beam, as seen in fig. 3, so constructed and attached to the bottom, as not only to supply-the place of a rocker but also a roller, beside dispensing with at least one beam. The runners C0 are so constructed and attached to the beam or beams of either sleigh as to supersede the necessity of knees and runners of wood, as commonly used, and in'connection with the bracesto form the whole in two or three pieces, if desired, thus making it very simple, cheap, and durable, reducing the cost of both building and repairing to less than half of the usual price. The connection of the hind sleigh to the box, as seen in 'fig. Z-marked a--is so balanced as to give the front end an upward tendency. The ends of the runners are curyed inward, and bolted or riveted to the sides of the beams, as seen in fig. 3, marked-d d d d.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A metallic runner, curved and attached to the beam, as seen in fig. 1. 2. The compound ox-bow brace, as seen in figs. 1 and 2.
