Be it known that I, JOHN T. ELLIOTT, of Grand Rapids, in the county of 'Kent, and State of Michigan-,i

have invented new and useful improvements in Clothes-Dryers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and'use the same, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of'- the clothes-dryer; and

Figure 2 a side elevation of '-th'e same.

-The present invention relates to that class of clothes-dryers having the frame to which the clothes are suspended, through lines ruu'around the same, hungupon a centre-post, so as t'o be revolved; and it consists principally in so hanging or securing the arms of such -frainetoV its common centre head-piece that, when desired, said arms can be swung up and into a vertical position, and thus into a compact shape for being transported or carried, whereby, in case of sudden storms, the clothes-frame, with the clothes suspended to it, can be more readily carried to any suitable place of shelter from the storm.

A, in the drawings, represents the eentrefpost or upright, Yhaving hun g upon its upper end the clothes-dryin g frame B, which consists of a series of radiating arms, G, from acommon centre head-piece or block, D.; these ,arms being each hung at AE to the 'sides of the projecting arms F of the head-block, so as to be susceptible of beingswung thereon, either intol i-vertical or horizontal position; they being secured in the latter position by means'of pins, a, passed through their inner ends into the head-arms F. The vclothes-drying frame is hung in a. manner to the post so asto be susceptible of being ,tilted or inclined in position at pleasure, but as this forms no part of the present invention I dovnot deem it necessary to herein pa-ticularly` explainv it.

From the above descriptionot' lthe manner iuwhich the several arms of the clothes-dryer frame are suspended to their common centre head-piece or block, it is pla-into be seen that, while they can be secured in a horiaontal position, they are susceptibleof being swung up into a vertical position, or, in other words, closed vupon eachother, or nearly so, and thus the frame put into amore compact shape for being carried or transported, even with the clothes uponvth'e lines, the importance and advantages of which are obvious.

I claim as new, and desire'to secure by Letters Patentl The combination of the armsxC, pivoted and'adjustable upon the projecting arms F, `of the head-block D, mounted .on a tilting arm, and operating substantially as described for the purpose specified.
