BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,347, dated September 27, V1898.
Application filed October 2 '7, 1 89 '7.
T all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, LEWIS E. BIERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Kensington, in the county of Westmoreland and'State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- I-Iolders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bag-holders.
The invention has for its object the provision of a simple and practical device for holding bags in position while iilling them with grain, dac., and is especially designed forffarm and mill use.
Vith the above object in view the invention finally consists inthe novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described in detail.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciication, and wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, in Which- Figure 1 is a vertical front view of my improved bag-holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same on the line A and B of Figs. 1
To put my invention into practice, I provide a frame constructed of the two upright beams 1 and 2,which are connected together by the cross-braces 3 and 4 and the base-piece 5. Attached to the lower ends of the afore- 9 of suitable length is obtained, and upon its upper end is formedthelhook 9, by which it is suspended tothe frame, and about midway down its length and upon its face portion is attached a suitable hook 10. Loosely mounted upon the aforesaid bar is the bracket 11,
Serial No'. 656,515- (No model.)
which is divided at its forward portion and has the lugs 12 and 12' formed thereon, which are connected together by means of the thumbscrew 13. Loosely tted within the bracket is the sheet-metal hopper 14:, havingthe upper iiared end 14e', and upon the lower outside portion of this hopper are attached the flat springs l5, which have the cams l', pivoted upon their lower ends, for securing the bag or sack to the hopper. A chair 16 is attachedfto the bracket by means of the eyepiece or lugs 17 and 18, which are formed or attached to the bracket, and the upper end of the chain is attached to the hook of the hanger-bar, so as to suspend the hopper at the required height. Any suitable arrangement may be used for securing the base of the frame and the footboard together when in use. In using the device the bag or sack is fitted upon the lower end of the hopper. The cams are then turned upward, soas to clamp the bag to the hopper. The hopper is then raised orV lowered to the required distance and the required amount of grain dumped yinto the hopper to fill the sack. The cam-clamps are then released and the sack or bag removed..
If it is desired, the frame may be dispensed A with and the device suspended by means of the hanger-bar to any convenient support.
Having thus fully shown and described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire vto secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bag-holder, the combination with the uprights, connected together at the top and bottom, by cross-bars, and the hanger formed with a hook at the upper end engaging with
