N0. 6ll,l63. Patented Sept. 20, I898. E. YOUNG.

(Application filed Mar. 24, 1897.)
NITED STATES" met.
' ATEN'I ELIZABETH YOUNG, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERT LINDSAY YOUNG, OF SAME PLACE.
CORSET ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,163, dated September 20, 1898. Application filed March 24, 1897. Serial No. 629,078. (No niodel.) Patented in England May 6, 1896,].1'0- 9,598.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH YOUNG, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of 9 Kelvingrove street, in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Corset Attachments, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 9,598, dated May 6, 1896,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object to keep that part of the corset which is in line with the haunches from curling up and thus destroying the figure and causing considerable annoyance and suffering to the wearer.
My improvement comprises a stiffener consisting of top and bottom sheaths adapted to be secured to the surface of the corset, at the side thereof, a middle band formed with folded longitudinal wings provided'with eyelets at their ends, whereby they are adapted to be secured on the waist-line to the surface of the corset, at the side thereof, and a removable, reversible, and replaceable strengthening-strip extending within the waistband and having its ends inserted in the sheaths, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure I is a front view of my improved corset attachment. Fig. II is a front view of the parts separated. Fig. III is an outside perspective view of the middle band. Fig. IV is an inside perspective View of the same.
- Fig. V is a perspective View of a corset provided with my attachment.
1 are a pair of sheaths, preferably of metal,
provided with eyelets 1, whereby they are 40 secured to the surface of the top and bottom, respectively, of a corset by suitable stitchin g.
2 is a small band, preferably of metal, lo-
cated midway of the top and bottom sheaths,
Having thus described my invention, the
following is what I claim as new therein and desirefto secure by Letters Patent:
A corset attachment, comprising a stiffener consisting of top and bottom sheaths adapted to be secured to the surface of the corset at the side thereof, a band. formed with folded longitudinal wings provided with eyelets at their ends and also adapted to be secured on p the waist-line to the surface of the corset at the side thereof, and a removable, reversible and replaceable strengthening-strip extending within the waistband and having its ends inserted in the sheaths; substantially as described.
In I testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
ELIZABETH YOUNG. Witnesses:
