Be it knownvthet I, J. S. CLARK, of Auburn, in the county of Worcester, and Commonweulthof Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Butter-Tongs; and I do hereby declare that the following is o, full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a. part of this specification.

In the drawings, the parts marked A A are the blades. These blades are fastened to the ends B B of the wire C, which 'is' coilehasY shown et D, to give a. spring to the arms E E, and cause them to spring apart, as shown in the. drawings. The arms E E are curved or bent, :is shown at a a, to give the ends B B, and blades A'A, the proper inclination to clasp and hold the lumps of butter.

Y The loperation is as follows: The operator takes hold of the arms E E, contracting them, clasps the lump o1 butter between the blades A A, when the lump of butter can be lifted from one place to another with ease und facility. As'soon ns the arms E E are allowed to expand, the blades A A are thrown from the lump of butter. My device is very -simple and can be made quite cheap. The wirc'C may be bent or coiled in :i somewhat different manner, and still be made to answer as the handle and opening spring to the device.

What I claim, und desire to secure by Letters Patent, is. v

The combination of the blades or plates A A, with thewire coiled `and bent substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein shown and described.
