Description
@ni/teh tetra latmt @Hita IMPROVED MOP WRINGER.
J. F. WHITE, OF BRATTL'EBORO, VERMONT.
Letters Patent No. 60,102, dated November 27 1866. i
'SPECIFICATION- TO A .LL WHGM ITMAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, J. F. WHITE, of Brattleboro, Windham county, State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful improvement in Mop Wringers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In thedrawings- Figure 1 is la plan view of my invention;
Figure 2 being .a vertical section through the same, showing its adaptation. e
This invention is adevice for wringing out mops, dish-cloths, Ste., and is made to be attached to pails, tubs, andother similar vessels during its use. e
In construction I form my mop wringer of a frame, A, in the form of a parallelograln, having'the rollersi B and C working in it'. Between the sides of this frame, A, Irplace a smaller frame, E,`the sides of which fit in the sides of the frame A when it (the frame C) is "shut, at the parts b. This smaller frame works on a'n axle or pivot, F, passing through its ends at c c', and into the sides of the frame A, which forms its bearings. The roller, B, is arranged in this frame at its other end, and the step, vH, is fastened across from ene of its sides to the other. By means of this swinging frame the roller B can be brought to any desired distance from the other roller, C, working in the frame, A, so that clothsor mops of diii'erent sizes can be operated upon.` The roller C has its bearings inthe sides of the frame A at d df; these `bearings are `arranged so that when-any pressure is made upon the roller C from the direction of the other rollerit yields somewhat to it, there being a slide and a spring behind each journal. In dg. 1 this device is shown by the'dotted lines at e e', the spring used in this case being a piece of rubber properly fastened in the sides of the frame A. The frame Alias notches cnt into its sides at a a a a, on the underside, so as to t over the edges of-.the vessel and ,hold the device rmly and steadily during its use. lFor `this same purpose I use the lever G, with a cam on its end, and pivoted in the frame at m, by turning which .the cam part wedges in between the frame and side of the vessel, making a firmattaehment of the two. i i
The operation of this wringer is as followsrx. A suiheient portion of one end of the mop or cloth, to be grasped by the hands, is passed through between the two rollers, the frame, E, having been swung up so as to separate them; vthe foot is then pressed upon the step, H, closing the frame, C, down and bringing the roller, B,
against the cloth as firmly as is desired; the cloth is then drawn through, the compression of the two rollers wringing 'the water out of it into the vessel beneath. The two rollers being scunewlzmtV yielding, the one by the `pressure and regulation of the foot, the other by means of the spring bearings behind its journals, allow for the dierent degrees of thickness of the cloth during .its passage thrcrugh, so that no sudden strain on the cloth or machine is experienced.
The advantages of this device are, the improved manner in which make one of. the rollers adjustableto the other by means of 'the swinging frame, E, and Athe ease by 'which its pressure is regulated by the foot of the operator, the whole machine being simple in construction and thorough `in execution. By applying the hinged frame E to the inside of the frame A, in the manner herein described, the device, is adapted to assume a very compact form when not in use.
Now, having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rectangular frame A, and 'yielding roller C, in combination with `the hinged or pivoted frame E, roller B, and foot-restH, when said frame E is arranged within .the .said frame A, all as herein described and for the purpose specified. i i
