NEOKTIE HOLDER.
No. 600,815. Patented Mar 15,1898" 31mm I DZ). Wadizflorih,

PAT-TNT DAVID D. WADSWORTH, OF ESGONDIDO, CALIFORNIA.
NECKTIE- HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,815, dated March 15, 1898.
Application filed May 22, 189 7.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, DAVID D. WADSWORTH, residing at Escondido, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and useful N ecktie-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a necktie-holder which is detachably connected thereto, so that it can be changed as desired.
The object of my invention is to produce a holder which is simple in its arrangement and can be easily applied and detached from the tie. I accomplish this by forming the holder from a single piece of wire, the middle portion of which is bent to form an arching loop, while the ends are arranged and bent to form a pin and eye, by which the holder is held in place on the tie, the pin having a central bend away from the loop to permit of the free passage of the head of the collar-button between it and the loop.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective of the holder. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is also a sectional view taken on the line 4 4.
In practice I form'the holder from a single piece of spring-wire and so bend it as to form the holder. The middle portion is bent to form the loop A, which engages the shank of the button. The sides of the loop are bent at A to form the reduced portion in order to prevent the shank of the collar-button slipping out, while the ends are made bent to form the side loops. The end B is provided with a hook portion, while the end B is provided with a point, and it extends across the loop Serial No- 637,692. (No model.)
formed by the middle portion to engage under the hook. When the wire outof which the holder is made is particularly light, the pointed end is turned, so as to prevent any spreading of the..holder. At the middle portion of the end B, I provide the bend E, which permits of the holder being put-on and taken off the shank of the button without that portion interfering in any manner with the head of the button.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very simple arrangement for holding a tie in position on a collar, which can be easily and cheaply made. My invention can also be used to hold ends in position by simply fastening the holder to the shirt or coat sleeve and have the loop A engage a button fitted in the cuffs.
WhileI have shown my invention as attached to a bow with a band encircling the neck, it will be readily understood that it may be used upon bows of the butterfly type which have no bands.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A necktie-holder formed from a single piece of wire, the middle portion of which is bent to form an engaging loop, while the ends thereof are bent to form the side loops,-one of said ends being bent to form a hook, while the other is formed as a pin with a point which engages said hook, and with a bend at that point where it passes the engaging loop, extending away from said loop to permit the free passage of the button-head into the loop, substantially as shown and described.
