WINDOW.
No. 595,332. Patented Dec, 14,189'7.
UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM FERGUSON MCINTOSH, OF DUNDEE, SCOTLAND.
-WINDOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 595,332, dated December 14, 1897. Application filed March 12, 1897. Serial No. 627,230. (No model.) Patented in England July 3, 1895, No. 12,808.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM FERGUSON M o- INTOSH, asubject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ire1and,and a resident of Daisy Bank, Maryfield, Dundee, in the county of Forfar, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in and Relating to Windows and their Frames, (for which Ihave obtaineda patent in Great Britain, No. 12,808, dated July 3, 1895,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to window-sashes, and is intended to provide a simple construction which will enable the sash to be raised and lowered and also swung to and from its position in the frame.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the invention. Fig. 2 is aperspeotive detail view of the hinge.
In the drawings the sash-rail is shown at 23 and the window-pane at 23. The rail is broken away, so as to show the hinge-plate 21, which is secured to the rail and has projecting hinge-eyes 21 embracing a projection 20 on a sliding plate 20. This plate moves in guides 19 on the window-frame. By this construction the sash may be raised and lowered and at the same time it can be swung on the hinge connection.
The hinge-eyes 21 lie at right angles to the plate 21.
Fig. 2 shows the parts of the hinge in the position occupied by them With the windowsash closed, while Fig. 1 shows the same parts in the position occupied by them with the sash open.
Having now described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by' Letters Patent, is-
In combination, the frame having the guides, the sliding plate moving in the guides and having the projection 20 the sash, and the right-angular hinge member 21 carried by the sash and pivoted to the projection 20*, substantially as described.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM FERGUSON MCINTOSII.
Witnesses:
ROBERT GIBSON, JnssIE O. SHEPHERD.
