Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
JOHN J. LOVE, OE NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED DOUBLE-HEADED WRENCH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,242, dated October 30, 1866.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. LOVE, of city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Double- Headed Wrenches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved wrench. Fig. 2 is a cross-section ofthe same, taken through the line a: x, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved wrench, simple in construction, easy ot' adjustment, and strong; and it consists of the combination of a right-and-lct't screw with the parallel moving bars having the jaws of the wrench on their ends, the parts being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A and B are `the bars of the wrench, upon t-he outer ends of which are formed the outer jaws, al and b, ot' the wrench-heads, which, when the bars are placed in position upon each other, point in opposite directions, as shown. Part ot' these bars A and B, on the edges that are toward each other, are cutaway, as shown in Fig. 1, and from the shoulders thus formed the bars are perforated longitudinally, and have screw-threads cut in the holes thus formed for the reception of the right-andleft screw C.
Upon the inner ends of the bars A and B are formed the other jaws, a2 and b2, of the wrench-heads. To the sides of the jaws a2 and threads of the holes formed in the bars A andA B, as before described.
Upon the middle part of the screw C is formed a small cylinder, c', by means of which the said screw is operated. The surface of the cylinder c is milled, to enable it to be more readily turned. By turning the screw C in one direction the jaws of both heads are moved apart or opened, and by turning it in the other direction the said jaws are closed.
To enable the wrench to more readily take hold ot' nuts in all situations the faces ofthe jaws of one head are made at right angles to the direction of the bars A and B, and the faces ot' the jaws of the other head are inclined outward, as shown in Fig. 1.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved wrench, formed by the coinbi nation of the right-and left screw C with the.
parallel-movin g bars A and B, having the jaws al and a2 and b' l)2 formed upon their ends, the parts being constructed and arranged substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
