BRUSH OR MOP HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 589,351, dated August 31, 1897.

Be it known that I, PETER H. HUMBAGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Brush or Mop Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings,formingapart of this specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a holder for brushes or mops of a construction that admits the adjustment thereof so that the same can be placed at an angle to the line of the handle and then secured in place, so as to use the same in corners or angles of walls and the like.

My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure I is a side elevation of my device, showing a mop attached thereto. Fig. II is an edge view of the same. 1 is the handle of the device, which is of the ordinary wooden construction and which fits into a cap 2. This cap 2 may be provided with interior threads, into which the handle 1 is adapted to screw, or it may be without the said threads, said handle 1 being merely driven therein. Said cap 2 is provided with a fiat projection 3.

at is a second piece provided with tapering exterior threads adapted to engage the mop or brush and provided with two flat projections 5 and 6, which are adapted to be placed on either side of the flat piece 3.

7 is a bolt which passes through the coincident holes in the pieces 3, 5, and 6, and S is a thumb-nut adapted to secure said bolt in place.

9 and 10 are cars cast on the piece 5, between which the head of the bolt 7 is adapted to rest to prevent the said head from turning.

13 is the mop-frame, to which the material 14 is secured by means of the wire 15, whose outer side is bent at an angle to engage on the hook 16, said hook being attached to the cap 2.

17 is a brush which can be attached to the tapered screw 4 instead of the mop.

The operation of the device is as follows: If it is desired to use a mop, the frame 13 is first secured to the screw 4, the wire 15 being loose. This wire 15 is then drawn upward toward the wooden handle 1 and engaged over the hook 16, as shown in Figs. I and II. It

will be observed that this operation draws the straight side of the wire 15, which side holds the material 14 tightly againstthe frame 13, securing the said material 14 in place. The

thumb-nut 6 is then tightened and the device is ready for use.

If the brush 17 is used,the wire 15 is omitted.

It will readily be seen that any position of the brush or mop is possible, as the adjustment of the parts will admit that the said brush be turned to a right angle or even an obtuse angle with relation to the line of the handle. when a mop is used, but in that event the wire 15 is constructed so as to be independent of the hook 16.

In. Figs. Vand VI, I have shown a modified form of construction in which adjustment of parts is attained by means of a thumb-screw 8, impinging against the flat piece 3, which is an extension of the part 3 in my preferred construction. The parts 2 and 4: are attached together by means of a rivet or its equivalent 7, the adjustment being secured by the said thumb-screw 8.

I claim as my invention 1. A mop or brush holder oomprisinga cap 2 provided with a plate 3, having side projections 11, 12, and a bolt-hole, the screw at provided with two plates 5, 6, having recesses 5", 6, and bolt-holes, and the bolt; substantially as described.

The combination consisting of a handle provided with the cap 2, an adjustable screw 4 attached thereto, a mop-frame 13, a wire This same adjustment is possible form 15 attached to said frame 13 and adapted form 15 adapted to secure the material 11 to [O to engage a hook 16 attached to the said vpart 2, substantially as described.

A handle provided with a cap 2, a plate attached to said cap 2, said plate being provided with circular corrugations 11 and 12, an adjustable screw 4, a means of attaching said screw to the said plate 3, a frame 13 adapted to be secured to the screw 1, a wire the said frame 13, and a hook 16 adapted tosecure said form 15 in place substantially as described.
