UNITED STATES PATENTv OFFICE.
EMJILIA M. SIVILS, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
FINGER CAP QR PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,653, dated June 15, 1897.
Application filed September 15, 1896. Serial No. 605,921, (N d L) T0 cZZ whom zit may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA M. SIVILS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger Caps or Pro teetors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, 'such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel construction in a cap or finger-protector designed to be worn by players of stringed musical instruments; and it consists in the features of con struction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating this invention, Figure l is a perspective view of a cap constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a slightly-modified construction.
In said drawings, 1 indicates the body portion of the device, which is provided with an inwardly-projecting finger 2. The said body portion 1 is made to conform to the shape of the inside of the end of the finger, while the finger-piece 2 is adapted to embrace the end of the finger and lie fiat against the outside thereof. Between the main portion 1 and the finger-piece 2 the said device can be provided with a fin or picker 3, or can be round, as shown in Fig. 2, according to the use to which it is to be put.
The cap can be fastened upon the end of the finger by making the finger-piece 2 with sufficient resiliency to hold the cap in place, or the body portion can be provided with a lacing device by means of which the cap can be laced upon the finger, such lacing device consisting of small openings in the edges of the body portion and a lacing-string.
A device of this kind can be made of metal, celluloid, or any other desired material, is light and inexpensive, and provides an attachment to prevent the fingers from being bruised or blistered in playing stringed instruments.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the kind specified consisting of a body portion comprising a curved plate that conforms to the contour of the end portion of a finger and is adapted to extend partially around the end portion thereof, a finger-piece extending from the end of the body portion and bent backwardly and opposite the concave side of the said body portion, a fin or picker between the end of said finger and the end of the body portion, and the openings in the edges of said body portion to receive a lacing device.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMMA M. SIVILS.
