M. V. OLRY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IIVIPROVED CAP FOR BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,281, dated September 25, 1866..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, M. V. OLRY, ot Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a Neck- Oap for Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists of two metal tubes connected together at the top, the Whole being constructed for attachment to the necks of bottles, and so as to form a neat and secure cap for the same, as fully described hereinafter. l
In order to enable others to make my invention, I will now proceed to describe the manner of constructing and applying the same.
On reference to the accompanying' drawings, which form a part of this speciiication, Figure l is a sectional view of myiinproved neck-cap for bottles, &c.; Fig. 2, thesame applied to a bottle 5 Fig. 3, a sectional plan on the line 1 2, Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a modified form of band, and Fig. 5, the same applied to abottle.
The neck-cap consists of a band or tube, A, of metal, and a somewhat thinner tube, b, the two tubes being connected together at the top by the annular piece a., and the whole, if desired, being made in one piece. When this cap has to be secured to a bottle, X, the neck of the latter is coa-ted with any suitable cement, ai, the band is fitted in its place, and the lower end of thetube Z1 is expanded by any suitable instrument, so as to bear against the en larged portion of the inside ofthe neck, as shown in Fig. 2, when the band will be securely conned in its position.
In many instances the lower end et' the tube b may be expanded to such an extent that the neck-cap can be held in its place with out the use of cement.
N eck-caps f the ordinary construction are y generally secured in their places by cement alone, and are so tormed that the contents ot' the bottle frequently come in Contact with the cement, and so soften the latter that the cap becomes loose.
It will be seen that when a cap ofthe above description is used the cement may, it' desired, be dispensed with, and that, should it be used, the contents of the bottle cannot un der any circumstances reach it.
It will also be seen that it is not necessary to use especial care in forming the neck ofthe bottle to receive the cap, that the lat-ter may be readily and cheaply made, and that the improved cap gives a neat finish to theneck of the bottle. y
The neck may have external screw-threads for receiving a screw-cover, B, similar to that of an ordinary fiask, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2; or the neckeap may be plain, as seen in Figs. 4 and 5, for the reception of a stopper, D.
It will be evident that the neckcap is susceptible of being highly ornamented, and that it may be modified in forni without departing from the main features ot' the invent-ion.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The within-described neck-cap tor' bottles, the same consisting of the two tubes A and b, connected together at the top and constructed for attachment to the neck of a bottle, substantially in the manner described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
