UNITED STATES PATENT FEICE.
JOSEPH VOREL, OF J OHNSTOVN NEV YORK.
COMBINED MATCH-BOX AND CIGAR-PERFORATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,706, dated May 18, 1897.
Serial No. 601,717. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH VOREL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Johnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Oombined Match-BOX and Oigar-Perforator, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to match-boxes- The object is to produce an attachment for a match-box in the nature of a cigar-perforator which will possess advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and general eifectiveness in operation.
With this object in view the invention consists in an improved construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a view in central vertical section of the match-box, showing one embodiment of the invention applied. Fig. 2 is a det-ail View in perspective of the device detached. Fig. 3 is a view in central vertical section of a modification.
In the drawings, A represents a match-box comprising a match -receiving chamber, a spring cover-catch, and a hinge, all of which are of common and well-known construction.
B designates a second chamber formed directly below the main chamber and separated jacent the larger end of this cone openings b5 are formed, and hinged upon the cone, so as to work in these openings,`are two angular arms b, having their free ends bent up and pointed to engage the end of the cigar. These arms are held normally away from the openings by springs b7 and are forced therethrough by means of spring-seated pins bs, which normally project through openings in the wall of the second chamber.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings the modification illustrated consists in forming the cigar-tipreceiving opening in the side of the box and employing a pin or blade which is secured at the free end of a pivoted arm, so as to engage the end of a cigar inserted in the opening, and is actuated by means of a spring-seated push pin or button.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim is- 1. In combination with a match-box, an auxiliary chamber having an opening to rcceive the end of a cigar, an arm pivoted in said chamber, a blade secured at the free end of the arm, a spring for holding the arm away from the opening, and a pin secured to the arm for forcing said blade into a cigar, substantially as described.
2. A cigar-perforator, consisting of a casing having an opening therein, a-cone fixed over said opening, arms hinged to said cone, said arms having their ends bent upward and pointed, said ends being adapted to enter Openings formed in the cone, springs for pressing said arms away from the openings,
' and pins secured to said arms and projecting through openings in the casing, as and for the purpose described.
3. A cigar-perforator consisting of a conical casing having an opening at its larger end to admit the end of a cigar, spring-pressed arms hinged to said casing at one end, said arms having their ends so bent as to enter openings formed in the side of the casing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afiiXed mysignature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH VOREL.
Witnesses S. S. WILLIAMSON, JOHN C. MAsoN.
