UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
HENRY O. ALEXANDER, OF ERASTUS, GEORGIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERT E. ALEXANDER, OF SAME PLACE.
PLOW ATTACHM ENT.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,849, dated March 16, 1897.
Application filed August 10, 1896. Serial No. 602,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. ALEXANDER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Erastus, in the county of Banks and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in plow attachments; and it has for its object, among others, to provide a simple and cheap attachment readily applied to the plow and having two wings or scrapers adj ustably'mounted on the clamp or holder, so that they may be turned independently of each other, according to the character of the work to be done. The wings are capable of adjustment to any desired slope, and the clamp or cuff is curved upon its inner face to fit the plow and plow-foot.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the-novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.
The invention in this instance resides in the peculiar combinations and the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed gated to fit said raised portion on the clamp out in the claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the let ters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a section through the same. Fig. 3 shows the application of the invention. Fig. 4 is a detail view.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several. views.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the clamp or cuff, which is adapted to be engaged over the plowfoot, and its under face is curved to confrom thereto, as shown, while its upper face is provided with a rectangular hole B therein,
through which may pass the bolt that secures the same detachably in place, the head of the bolt being made polygonal in form, so as' to prevent its turning.
C are the wings or scrapers. Each is provided with a tapered or beveled upper face at one edge to fit the ground when in use and with a flange D at substantially a right angle thereto and provided with a hole E therethrough. These wings are arranged as shown, one upon each side of the sides of the cuff or clamp, and a bolt G passes through each flange and through a hole in the side of the cuff, the said hole being countersunk upon the inner face of the side wall of the cuff and the countersunk portion being made polygonal in form to receive the polygonal head of the bolt, so that the latter cannot turn. The bolts receive the nuts H on their outer ends, by which the wings may be held in their adjusted positions. Loosening of the nut permits of the necessary adjustment of the wing, and when the same is in the position, with reference to the ground, desired by the plowman the nut is tightened and the wing securely held. Each wing can be adjusted independently of the other.
The cuff or clamp Ais raised one-eighth of an inch, more or less, around the hole B and corrugated, and the flange D on the scraper is countersunk correspondingly and corruor cuff to avoid any possibility of slipping af ter the scraper is tightened.
What is claimed as new is 1. A plow attachment comprising a clamp with parallel sides having the forward corners of its downwardly-flanged sides rounded off, and wings having flanges adj ustably secured to the sides of the clamp at substantially right angles thereto, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A plow attachment consisting of a clamp having its downwardly-flanged sides rounded off at the forward corners, and its upper and side wallsprovided with holes having poly onal walls, wings having flanges arranged parallel with the sides of the clamp and havspecification in the presence of two subscribing polygonal Walls fitting in the holes of the ing Witnesses. side Walls of the clamp, and having bolts passed through the flanges and sides and hav- 5 ing polygonal heads and nuts upon their Witnesses:
outerends, all as and for thepurpose specified. S. A. LANGSTON,
In testimony whereof I have signed this 13. R. VAUGHN.
HENRY O. ALEXANDER.
