E. R. NABLO. GLOVE HOLDER.
No. 573,232. Patented Dee. 15, 1896.
my@ E UNITED STATES ATENT GFFICE.
EIIIRAIM R. NABLO, OF FORT W'AYNE, INDIANA.
GLOVE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,232, dated December 15, 1896.
Application filed April 16 1896.
To @ZZ whom it 11i/(ty concer/t:
Be it known that I, EPHRAIM R. NABLO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in glove-holders; and one object of my invention is the provision of a glove-holder which will contain all numbers of gloves separate, so that a certain number of glove can be easily and quickly found, and which will accommodate any number of pairs of gloves in a compact package or bundle, so that they may be easily taken from the case or holder vwhen the gloves are being sold.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an adjustable glove-holder which will accommodate a greatnumber of pairs of gloves and also be adjusted so as to snugly hold a fewer number as they are taken from the holder to be sold.
Another object of my invention is the projvision of a gloveholder which will contain the gloves in a smooth position and which is very cheap, simple, and practical.
To attain the desired objects, the invention consists of a glove-holder embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure l represents a perspective view of the holder filled with pairs of gloves and having one of the hinged iiaps raised so as to show the manner of taking the gloves from the holder. Fig. 2 represents a plan view of the holder in an open position, and Fig. 3 represents a transverse central sectional view thereof.
In the drawings, A designates the bottom concaved or dished section, and B designates the top concaved or dished section, which consists of the central long section C and the two hinged end flaps or sections D. Near the ends of the central section C are connected the straps or bands E, which are also connected to the bottom section at F. 'These straps or bands are made long, so as to adapt the sections to contain any number of pairs of gloves, and on the central portion of the section C is secured the slitted or slotted plate Gr, which also secures the band or strap Serial No. 587,821. (No model.)
on said bottom section and which has formed integral therewith the number-carrying portion or flap K', to show the number or size of the gloves contained in the holder, and said strap or band I-I carries at its eudthe metal strip L, which secures the finger-flap M to the end of it, so that the band or strap may be pulled upon to cause the lip or point N on the strip L to engage with the slits or slots O in the plate G.
Slidably fastened on the central portion of the top section, by means of the rivets or fastenings P, are the slotted plates Q, which are adapted to slide back and forth to hold the hinged flaps in the same line with the central section, and also so that the flaps may be raised in order that the gloves may be taken from either end ofthe holder Without unfastening the lip froml the slotted plate, and in order to make it easy to push the slotted plates back and forth I have one end of them bent upward, as at R. From this construction, taken in connection with the drawings, the operation of this device will be readily understood, and, brieliy stated, is as follows: A suflicient number of pairs of gloves are placed in the holder to let it just be fastened-tliat is, to
allow the lip N to be engaged with the last slot on the slotted plate-and as the gloves are taken from the holder the package becomes sm aller, and to accommodate thexnthe lip N is then caused to engage the other slots until it has engaged the last one, and then the case is about empty and is ready to be iilled.
I claiml. A glove-holder, consisting' of a top and bottom section, one having hinged ends, sliding catches for locking said ends, a band surrounding the sections and having a lip at one end, and a plate having slots to receive said lip to permit adjustment of the sections.
2. A glove-holder consisting of the two sections, the hinged flaps on one of the sections and the sliding catches or slotted plates for holding the hinged naps.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EPHRAIM R. NABLD. Witnesses:
T. M. LLOYD, C. S. SMITH.
