No. 569,728. Patented Oct. 20, 18496.
I W! TNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT @FFICE.
FRANK R. TREASURE, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,728, dated October 20, 1896. Application filed February 29, 1896. Serial No. 581,378. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK B. TREASURE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to toys; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation, and which is adapted to interest and amuse children, and which may be employed by those of mature years for such purposes.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of myimproved toy, part thereof being shown in section; and Fig. 2 a plan View.
In the practice of my invention I provide a toy comprising a body portion A, which is preferably designed to represent a fish, and formed on the rear upper part 01": the body portion A is a circular flat space E, provided with an annular rim or flange b, to theback or rear portion of which is hinged a lid or cover D, having an annular flange or rim (Z, which is adapted to rest upon and be secured to the annular flange or rim 1). The body portion A is also provided with a central bore or passage G, which extends from the end thereof backwardly to the center of the circular portion B, where it is curved upwardly and opens at right angles to the fiat surface of the circular portion D, and placed thereon is a ball or spherical body II, which is provided with a plurality of radial pins h, which are secured therein, and connected with the outer end of the bore G is a tube or pipe K, which may be of any desired length, and by blowing through the tube or pipe K the ball or spherical body II will be raised from its seat and suspended in mid-air, and will be also rapidly revolved while so suspended. This ball or spherical body H may be made of any desired material, but is preferably composed of cork or other similar substances.
The cover D need not necessarilybe hinged in position, and maybe detachably connected with the annular flange or rim Z) in any desired manner.
This device is simple in construction and operation and well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, while being also comparatively inexpensive.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In an article of manufacture, a toy having a main body provided with a longitudinally and upwardly extendingbore,a circular plate, an upwardly-projecting flange on the edge of said plate, a hinged lid having a flange adapted to rest upon said plate-flange, said plate having a circular opening in its central portion in communication with aforesaid bore and a ball having a plurality of pins adapted to fit over said opening, all of said parts being combined substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed myname, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 28th day of February, 1896.
FRANK R. TREASURE.
