SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,092, dated June 30, 1896.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FEED B. SWAIM and JAMES G. OLARK,citizens of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winneba go and State of Wisconsimhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in overalls and has more particular relation to auxiliary fronts for the same.

The objects of our invention are, first, to strengthen the overalls at the place where the most wear comes; second, to render the front portion of the overalls waterproof, and, third, to provide a removable imperforated waterproof adjunct to the Overalls, which will be protected from wear.

The invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of the overalls embodying our invention, a portion of the cover or reinforcement being broken away to show the removable waterproof interlining; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section through one leg of the overalls.

A represents the body of the overalls; A A the legs of the same, and B B are front reinforcing portions, made of the same material of which the overalls are constructed. These reinforced portions are sewed'into the outside seams b b, and also into the inside seams Z2 1), and stitched across the top I) b from the crotch a to the outside seams b b, the bottom edges 0 0 being left unattached. These bottoms c are left open and disconnected from the leg proper of the overalls for the following reasons: first, to prevent the drawing and misshaping of the legs of the Serial No. 583,775. overalls caused by the bending of the knee, and, second, to permit the insertion of a removable waterproof auxiliary interlining C. This interlining O is imperforated and may be inserted or removed from the bottom and is secured in position by means of buttons and eyelets c c c, &c., the buttons being attached to the legs of the overalls and the eyelets formed in the edge of the interlining.

We do not wish to confine our invention 'to this mode of attachment of the interlining. Other equivalent methods of attachment may be used. I

In the use of Overalls the greatest Wear comes upon the front of the thigh portion and the knee of each leg, and in the mines or in northern latitudes, where it is necessary to handle wet or icy substances, it is an advantage to have some protection for the body from Wet and moisture, Where the Wet or icy particles come in contact with the overalls, otherwise the overalls would become wet and, being ordinarily of material not waterproof, the wet and moisture would be communicated to the body of the wearer at the point of contact with the substances or articles handled.

It is a well-knownfact that all waterproof material is not durable and is much more ex pensive than the ordinary material used in making overalls.

In our invention rubber cloth or any material may be used for the interlining which is impervious to water.

Our invention provides, first, a reinforcement to the overalls where the most wear 00- ours; second, a removable waterproof interlining for the parts most exposed to the wet, and, third, a protection for the waterproof interlining.

By means of our invention and the construction shown, one of the imperforated removable waterproof interlinings will withstand the wear of several pairs of overalls;
