COMBINED INKSTAND, WAFER OR'VSAND BOX, CALENDAR, LETTER AND ENVELOPE HOLDER, AND

. PEN-RACK.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,104, dated July 3, 186.6.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE SCHMIDT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Construction of Inkstand, Wafer or Sand Box, Calendar, Letter and Envelope Holder, and Pen-Back; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and and described, whereby a very desirable article is obtained for the counting-room, and one which may be constructed at a `moderate cost, and have a neat and ornamental appearance.

Arepresents what may betermed the base7 of the device, which is of rectangular form, and provided with feet af, one at each angle. On this base there is a box, B, in which an inkstand, C, is fitted, and a box,D, which may contain sand or wafers! At the rear of the box B there is a box, B', the front of which has three curved surfaces, E E' E", the central one, E, being the Widest and having behind it a cylinder, F, the axis b of which extends up through the top of the box B', so that F may be turned by hand when required. This cylinder F has the days of the week printed or otherwise marked upon it, and an opening is made in the front side of the curved surface E, so that the names of the days may be consecutively7 exposed by turning cylinder F. Be-

hind the other two curved surfaces, E' E", there are square uprights G, provided with cen tra-l, shafts, aft, which are allowed to turn freely in their bearings, said shafts extending up through the top of the box B', so that they may be turned by hand. These uprights have one end of belts H attached to them, the opposite ends of said belts being attached to rods 1, which also extend up through the top of box B', for the purpose of turning them.. `One of these belts has the names of the months printed or otherwise marked upon it, and the other one the numbers of the days of the months upon it, so that by turning the uprghts G and rods I the names of the months and the number of the days thereof may be consecutively exposed through openings in the curved surfaces E' E". At the rear of the box B' there is a high narrow box, J, which extends the whole length of the base A, and is designed for the envelope'receiver,andateach side of base A there is a railing, Kwhich form letter-receivers. To the front side of the box B' pen-racks L L are attached.

The device may be constructed of sheet metal, varnished, painted, or lacquered, so as to form a neat and ornamental affair.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of iukstand,water or sand box, calendar, letter and envelope holder, and

pen-racks, substantially as herein shown and described.
