FOLDING lRONING-BOARD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 559,929, dated May 12, 1896. Application filed February 13, 1896. Serial No. 579,124. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OSA R. BUNNER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Pruntytown, in the county of Taylor and State of lVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Ironing- IBoards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invent-ion has relation to improvements in folding ironing-boards, and the object is to provide an ironing-board adapted to be sustained upon hinged brackets turning in supports adapted to be fastened to a vertical surface, and which may be folded into a small space when not in use and readily and conveniently extended and arranged upon the brackets as desired for use.

Another object is to provide such an implement or apparatus with a convenient case or receptacle to contain the utensils necessary in ironing.

I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention secured in position and arranged for use. Fig. 2 is a detail view of one of the hingebrackets. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of one of the board-supports, showing the pintles upon which it turns. Fig. 4: is adetail view of the board folded and sustained by the bracket.

A A designate duplicate supports, consisting of a base-plate 1, provided with screwholes at convenient points through which screws may be projected into a vertical surface, substantially as indicated in the drawings, and provided with projecting lugs 1 2, formed with pintle sockets or holes 3 4, in which the pintles of the board-support are held and turn, and also formed with open end slots 5 5, adapted to receive the plate of the board-support and thereby prevent lateral displacement of said turning-brackets.

l3 l3 designate duplicate board supports or brackets, consisting of plates 7 8, provided at their upper and lower rear portions with pintles 0 10, respectively, adapted to fit in the pintle sockets or holes 3 4, and thereby held at such a distance from the end as to allow the board to swing down and hang vertically, as shown.

C designates the ironing-board, composed of four pieces or sections 13 1t 15 16, hinged together, so that when the board is extended out fiat the meeting ends of the sections will abut against each other and keep the board braced in extended position and against sagging below a horizontal line. The section 13 is substantially the same length as the section ll, and when in folded position these sections lie flat against each other, and the section 15 is made short to constitute an end or turndown section to permit the folded sections 13 and 14 to be turned up substantiallyparallel to the section 16, as shown in Fig. at of the drawings. To keep the sections of the board in folded position, one end of a link or strap 17 is connected to the section 1% and the other end detachably fastened to the section 16, substantially as shown.

To the turning bracket or support 13 is secured a box 18, provided with a lid 19, hinged thereto in any suitable manner, the purpose of the box being to provide a convenient and ready receptacle for the ironing utensils, which are to be kept in the box. 7

The whole apparatus or device comprises a handy and convenient means for the purpose intended, and when not in use the board can be folded up, as shown, and the brackets may be removed, or, as is generally the case, turned back against the wall out of the way. The board is located on its supports to lie a convenient distance from the wall, so as to provide a space to permit the articles being ironed and room to hang down behind the inner edge of the board.

The brackets when in use with the board in position are prevented from turning in their bearings by the engagement of the rear edge portions in the slots 5 5, as shown in the drawings.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

An ironing board, comprising supports adapted to be secured to avertieal surface and formed with upper and lower projections provided with pintle-sockets and open end slots in their upper edges, ironing-board brackets form ed with pintles to take in the pintleholes of the said supports and to engage in the open end slots ,and formed with a board-recess in their upper ends, an ironing-board C0111- posed of sections hinged together, and links to connect one end of the board to one of the turning-brackets, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
