Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,465, dated J une 12, 1866.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, O. B. BUTTLEs, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Impression- Oups; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, makinga part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of one of the cups in question, for taking an impression of the upper interior portion of the mouth, and Fig. 2 represents a section through the same.

A cup for taking an impression of the under interior portion of the mouth would vary slightly in form only from that shown, but nothing in principle 5 hence I have shown but one form of cup in the drawings.

In the use of the impression-cups as at present constructed the wax or other material is liable to move or slip in removing the cup from the mouth, and the consequence is a badlyfitting plate.

The object and purpose of my invention are to prevent this liability of the material in which the impression is taken from slipping or moving; and my invention consists in forming a flange or projection on the inside of the cup, which entirely prevents the material from moving in the cup or marring its entire accuracy.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings.

A represents an upper cup, which, in addition to its other usual appliances, I make with a rim, flange, or projection, a, so that the wax or other material used in it cannot, in removing the cup, change its position, it beingfirmly held to the cup by the said rim or flange.

By the use of such a cup the impression of the inside of the mouth can be accurately taken and accurately preserved in removing it from the mouth.

b represents the handle by which the cup is placed and manipulated, and c the elevation therein to fit against the root of the mouth.

The cup for taking an impression of the 1111- der portion of the mouth would vary butlittle in shape or form from that herein shown and described, and need not be further explained.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- Oombining with a dental impression-cup an inner rim or flange, a, for preventin g the wax or other impressed material from moving or slipping in the cup as the latter is being removed from the mouth, substantially as described.
