K. 0. ESTERHAZY. FASTENING FOR STRAPS.
No. 553,399. Patented Jan. 21, 1896.
m'fhesses M M f 'rw w 4/2 WW KARL COUNT ESTERI-IAZY, OF
FASTENING PATENT OFFICE.
PRESBURG, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
FOR STRAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,399, dated January 21, 1896.
Application filed March 1 9, 1 8 9 5.
- Hungary March 2 To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL COUNT ESTER- HAZY, a subject of the King of Hungary, Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of Szent Abraham, Presburg, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Straps, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in Austria, March 29, 1894:, No. 52,320, let/2,4521, and in Hungary March 29, 1894, No. 91,819, 28/ 1,17 6,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fastenings for connecting two superposed straps which permit such straps to be adjusted lengthwise relatively to each other and hold them securely in any position to which theyhave been adjusted.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan, of the fastening closed. Figs. 3 and 4 show the fastening opened, the former in side elevation and partly in section, the latter in plan. Fig. 5 shows a section of a modification of my dev1ce.
R R are the straps provided with holes or perforations in the usual manner. F is a sleeve through which the said straps pass freely. This sleeve is provided either on its top side or on its top side and its bottom side with a plate f or plates f f respectively, pivoted to such sleeve and carrying pins .2 z adapted to engage with the holes in the straps R R. The sleeve F fits loosely into an outer sleeve, H, guided 011 the former by pins h h entering into slots 3 s in the sides of the inner sleeve, F. Normally the outer sleeve is in its forward position, (shown in Figs. 1 and 2,) in which it securely holds the pivoted plates f f in the closed position in which the pins 2 a on such plates enter the holes in the straps. Now, if it is desired to shift or ad just one of these straps along the other, the outer sleeve, H, is drawn back, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, permitting the plates f f to be opened, so that the pins ,2 2 come out of engagement with the holes in the straps. The straps may then be adjusted as desired, and then the plates f f and the outer sleeve, H,
Serial No. 542,299. (No model.) Patented in Austria March 29, 1894,1111. 52,320, and in are returned into the normal position, (shown in Figs. 1 and 2,) holding the straps securely in the position to which they have been adj usted.
Sometimes it may be advantageous to arrange on the inner sleeve, F, only one plate, f, pivoted thereto, as shown in Fig. 5. The other plate, f, then forms a rigid projection on the said sleeve and carries no pin to enter into the holes in the straps. The pin a on the plate has then to be made rather longer to enable it to engage with both straps.
Without departing from the essence of my invention the shape and the dimensions of the herein-described fastening may be varied.
1 I claim 1. A fastening for securing two superposed straps, the said fastening comprising an inner sleeve through which the straps pass freely, a plate pivoted to the end of the said sleeve and providedwith a pin to engage in the holes of the straps, an outer sleeve slidably mounted on and connected with the inner sleeve and adapted to slide over and confine the end of the pivoted plate, the said pivoted plate being provided with a shoulder to limit the movement of the outer sleeve, substantially as set forth.
2. A fastening for securing two superposed straps, the said fastening comprising an inner sleeve through which both straps pass freely, plates pivoted opposite each other to one end of the inner sleeve on opposite sides of the straps, the said plates being provided with pins on their inner sides adapted to engage in the holes in the straps, and an outer sleeve adapted to slide on the inner sleeve and the inner ends of the pivoted plates when closed down, the said plates being provided with stops or shoulders to limit the movement of the outer sleeve, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
KARL COUNT Es ERHAZY.
