Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
lMPROVED WASH-BASIN.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,741, dated May 15, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANN CHRISTIAN KNOEPKE, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Wash-Basin; and I do hereby declare the following is a full and eX- act description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a wash-basin or wash-bowl with asoapcup inside, so that the soap may be carried about with the bowl.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 is a plan. Fig. 2 is a section. Fig. 3 is a section of a bowl struck out from one piece of tin.
Similar letters in each refer to the same parts.
The bowl or basin which holds the water is made ot' the sides B and curved bottom b, soldered to it. Inside the bowl is a curved strip, O, soldered t it, having an opening', d, at the bottom. This strip C forms, with the side of the bowl, a cup in which soap can be placed, and the Waterdrainingfrom it will pass through the opening d into the bowl. A ring, E, is soldered round the bottom of the bowl to prevent the bottom b b from being injured by the weight when it is set down. I also stamp the bowl B out of one piece of tin, as shown in Fig. 3, and the soap-cup O and ring E being attached as before explained. i
The common kind of wash-basin is often carried some distance in the hand, and the soap being laid down anywhere becomes lost, or it is lett in the water and wasted. By my invention these disadvantages are avoided.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a tin washbowl made of a combination of the bowl B, curved strip C, and ring E, in the manner and for the purpose described.
JOHANN CHRISTIAN KNOEPKE.
