PEN-WHEEL BLANK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,456, dated $eptember 17,- 1895. Application filed July 10,1895. Serial No. 555,526. No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLEs A. MONT- GOMERY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Wheel Blanks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a blank from which a pin-wheel can be produced, and the object of the same is to provide a blank for pinwheels which can be used for the purpose of advertising, and at the same time can be adapted for use as an amusing pin=wheel or toy for children.
My invention consists of a rectangular blank imprinted on one face with four triangular fields or designs, having border-lines which are formed by the diagonals of the blank, so as to afford guide-lines for cutting the blank, said blank being further provided on its opposite side or back with fragments of the fields or designs which are complementary to the main fields or designs, so that when the latter are out along their division-lines, which register with the border-lines of the fragmentary designs, a pin-wheel may be produced by turning over the flaps so formed for the purpose of forming the vanes of the pin-wheel, as will be hereinafter described, and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face View of my pin-wheel blank. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is a face view, showing the manner in which the blank is cut and perforated, the design, however, being omitted, and Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a complete pin-wheel formed from the blank.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A indicates a rectangular blank, which may be formed of paper or other suitable material, and which on one side is imprinted with four fields or designs a, which are of triangular shape, and which are separated from one another by division-lines a, formed by the diagonals of the rectangular blank. At the opposite side or back of the blank the same is imprinted with fragments 12 of the fields or designs on the front thereof, said fragments being also of triangular shape and each having a border-line b which registers or matches with the division-line at the opposite side of the blank. As shown in the drawings, the fields or designs are shown as consisting of geometrically-arranged flags, which each posite side or back of the blank. The blank can either be furnished to the trade, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, Without any incisions or perforations, or it can be out along the diagonals and perforated, as shown in Fig. 3, in which figure, for clearness, the designs are omitted. When the article is furnished, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the same is out along the diagonals, so as to form incisions d, as shown in Fig. 3, which incisions correspond to the division-lines a of the fields or designs on the face of the blank, and to the border-lines b of the fragments of the fields or designs on the back of the blank. The flaps a are then perforated at the corners and a central perforation is also formed in the blank, said perforations' being for receiving a pin or other axis of the pin-wheel E to be produced, as shown, Fig. 4;. It will be seen from Fig. 4. that those fragments of the fields or designs which were at the back of the blank now appear at the front of the pin-wheel, so as to form continuations of the main fields or designs which are on the face of the pin-wheel. Consequently it will be seen that when the blank is imprinted with flags and fragments thereof that the vanes e of the pin-wheel will appear as furled flags. The central plain portion of the back of the blank, as shown in Fig. 2, affords an ample space for advertising matter, so that the device is adapted as well for advertising as also for furnishing amusement for children and'others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A rectangular blank for pin -wheels imprinted on the face with triangular fields or designs separated by diagonal division-lines of the blank, and on the back with fragments or portions of the designs or fields on the face, said fragments having border-lines which register with the division-lines on the face, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres ence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES A. MONTGOMERY.
